WHEREAS, a graduate from Fresno State’s journalism school, Hanford native John Walker has spent over three decades covering the Central Valley in his career that spans over four decades; and
WHEREAS, in his long tenure in photojournalism, John’s work has been reviewed nationally in Time magazine, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated. John’s national recognition continued receiving several awards with the National Photographers Press Association throughout his career; and
WHEREAS, John began his career with the Mesa Tribune in Arizona which utilized his work and helped hone his photography skill. After five years in Arizona, John joined one of his photography idols in Ryan Miles Marty at the Fresno Bee in 1985; and
WHEREAS, since 1985, John’s coverage of the Central Valley, the nation, and even trips abroad have captured timeless moments throughout history. With a career spanning over seven presidencies and decades of technological advances, John’s mission remained the same: capture moments that communicate across language, culture, other barriers, and evoke a range of emotions; and
WHEREAS, the Central Valley and the Fresno Bee has been honored to view John’s work over the past thirty years and wish him great health in retirement.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we, Mayor Jerry Dyer and Fresno City Councilmembers do hereby recognize:
“John Walker Day”
in the City of Fresno.
