Dr. Benjamin Boone
WHEREAS: Dr. Benjamin Boone received his undergraduate degrees in Music Theory and Applied Music/Jazz Saxophone from The University of Tennessee, his Master of Music in Composition from Boston University, and his Doctor of Music al Arts degree in Composition from the University of South Carolina; and
WHEREAS: As a classical composer, Dr. Boone’s compositions have been performed in 35 countries, appearing on 28 recordings , and headlined national news stories. His music has focused on writing music that addresses relevant cultural and environmental issues, and aspires to instigate a greater sense of empathy and understanding; and
WHEREAS: Throughout his career, Boone has received many distinguished awards for his knowledge and command of music, including the International Society of Contemporary Music, the Olympia International Prize for Composition, Boston University, The U.S. Department of State, and many more; and
WHEREAS: Dr. Benjamin Boone has been serving as a Professor at the California State University, Fresno for more than 20 years and is now a three time recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship to expand perspectives through academic and professional advancement and cross-cultural dialogue and creating connections in a complex and changing world.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that Nelson Esparza, the Fresno City Council , and Mayor do hereby proclaim, the 7th day of July 2022 as:
“Dr. Benjamin Boone Day”
in the City of Fresno,
