Re: Verizon Wireless Application P21-06304

Meeting with Huntington Park Condominium Village HOA
Planning Commission Agenda, May 4th, 2022
Dear Commissioners and Staff:
At the suggestion of the Commission Chair, Verizon Wireless arranged a virtual meeting with Larry Taylor and Sean Boyd of the Huntington Park Condominium Village Board of Directors on Monday May 3, 2022.
Verizon Wireless and appellants had an hour long meeting via Zoom. Verizon Wireless representatives provided a full description of the project including the site history, coverage objectives, alternatives review and design through a slide presentation. After an initial presentation, the floor was opened for comments and questions by the appellant. Verizon Wireless listened to questions from Larry and others, and responded with an open discussion of each issue.
The questions involved Verizon Wireless's selection of alternatives and the neighbor's proposed alternatives, all of which are shown in the comprehensive alternatives analysis attached to the staff report that can be reviewed with the Commission at the hearing.
We reviewed the limitations on the City parking lot they proposed, including the 100- yard setback from an existing wireless tower, the existing solar canopies and electric car charging facilities.
We also reviewed the neighbors' suggestion to use the Del Webb building rooftop, which is already occupied by a Verizon Wireless facility operating beyond its capacity.
With respect to neighbor concerns over the proposed tree pole design, we described the new City policy favoring "mono-trees” and forwarded Mr. Taylor a copy of the interim ordinance D.C.9 – C-010 that includes the language regarding that preferred design by the city.
We also discussed appellant's proposed Italian obelisk design, which we explained is problematic for the future given the limited diameter of the exterior skin. The limitations of a narrow exterior shroud have been revealed by the former Fresno monopole design which is now obsolete and cannot accommodate necessary modifications needed for new frequencies that carriers recently licensed from the FCC.
If you should have any questions or need any additional information please don’t hesitate to contact me at the number below.
Thank you, We look forward to reviewing Verion Wireless's staff approved project with you at tomorrow nights hearing.
