Is hereby presented to:
Margarita Rocha
for her tireless work and leadership in our community.
WHEREAS: Margarita Rocha, a daughter of immigrant parents, is a pillar in the Fresno immigrant community; and
WHEREAS: Margarita Rocha spent a decade working for the federal government in Washington D.C and Cleveland before returning to Fresno as Centro La Familia’s director in January 1993; and
WHEREAS: Under the steadfast leadership of Margarita Rocha, Centro La Familia has provided an array of resources to more than 15,000 people annually, including consultations and assistance with applications for residency permits and citizenship; and
WHEREAS: As the organization’s leader, Rocha has successfully increased staff and services focused on immigration, as well as victim services, policy, education, and health in Fresno and across the Valley; and
WHEREAS: Most recently, Margarita Rocha was one of only eight persons across the nation selected to serve as Citizenship Ambassador to the first-ever Citizenship Ambassador Initiative at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Department; and
WHEREAS: Rocha’s appointment to this federal initiative will serve to demystify the naturalization process to thousands of immigrants across the Central Valley region and brings great pride to the City of Fresno.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that we, Nelson Esparza, Mayor Jerry Dyer and the Fresno City Council, do hereby proclaim, the 11th of August 2022 as:
“Margarita Rocha Day”
in the City of Fresno,
