Office of Council President Nelson Esparza
Is hereby presented to:
Pao Yang
for his tireless work and leadership in our community.
WHEREAS: Pao Yang is a pillar of the Southeast Asian community in the Central Valley, especially so to the Hmong community; and
WHEREAS: Since 2017, Pao Yang has been the President and CEO of The Fresno Center, a nonprofit organization with a 30-year history of promoting cross-cultural understanding through its community work.; and
WHEREAS: Under the leadership of Pao Yang, the Fresno Center has grown their long standing history of providing social services, advocacy, immigration, education, workforce training, and mental health services within Fresno County and throughout California; and
WHEREAS: Additionally, Pao Yang is an active community volunteer, serving on the City of Fresno Immigrants Affairs Committee Member and the Saint Agnes Hospital Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS: Most recently, Pao Yang was one of only eight persons across the nation selected to serve as Citizenship Ambassador to the first-ever Citizenship Ambassador Initiative at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Department; and
WHEREAS: Yang’s appointment to this federal initiative will serve to demystify the naturalization process to thousands of immigrants across the Central Valley region and brings great pride to the City of Fresno.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that we, Nelson Esparza, Mayor Jerry Dyer and the Fresno City Council, do hereby proclaim, the 11th of August 2022 as:
“Pao Yang Day”
in the City of Fresno,
