WHEREAS, KMJ began in Fresno, California in 1922. In 1925 they started five- minute news updates, which gradually turned into Fresno’s Morning News; and
WHEREAS, Fresno’s Morning News has become an award winning news program. You can listen to Fresno’s Morning News on 580 AM and 105.9 FM KMJ Radio from 6:00 -9:00am Monday through Friday; and
WHEREAS, Every year a national panel of radio and television professionals choose the winners for the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California to present an award called the Golden Mike Award for broadcast journalism. At this year’s 74 th Annual Golden Mike Awards, Fresno’s Morning News won for Best Newscast. Four of the last five years, Fresno’s Morning News has won this prestigious award; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Best Newscast are host Christopher Gabriel, news anchor Liz Kern, writer Gabe Navarro and Ag Director Don Yor k. They have a passion for the work that they do and it definitely shows. The Central Valley is fortunate to have this great broadcasting team.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we, Mayor Jerry Dyer and the Fresno City Council, do hereby honor and recognize your hard work and dedication to Journalism Excellence and proclaims Thursday, April 18th 2024 to be:
“FRESNO’S MORNING NEWS DAY”
