WHEREAS, Sophia Lesseos is a News Reporter, Mu ltimedia Journalist, and certified Small Unmanned Aircraft Drone Pilot for KMPH FOX26 News. Sophia joined the FOX26 team on October 11, 2022. During her time at KNDO, she worked on several different investigative stories, produced, anchored, sports re ported, filled in for weather, and was a regional MMJ for KHQ. Sophia excelled in telling stories that involved hard news, climate change, and investigations; and
WHEREAS, Sophia was born and raised in Los Ange les, California, where she attended college at College of the Canyons, graduating with her Associate's Degree in Journalism in 2019 and transferring to California Stat e University, Northridge, graduating with her Bachelor in Broadcast Journalism in 2021. While at COC, she interned at the American Pavilion in Cannes, France, as a photographer at the Cannes Film Festival, living in France for a month. Sophia was a part of the Canyon News team, learning all the different aspects of the newsroom; and
WHEREAS, while at CSUN, she was the President of the Radio Television Digital News Association during her senior year of college. She interned at KHTS in Santa Clarita, California, reporting breaking news in the SCV Valley. She was also an intern and production assistant at ABC7 in Los Ange les, working on vari ous projects for the FACEism documentary series On The Red Ca rpet and Localish. Sophia was also a part of Valley View News and KCSN, working in both the newsroom and radio station as a reporter, editor, writer, and anchor. In her senior year at CSUN, Sophia won the RTNA Hal Fishman Memorial Scholars hip at the 71st A nnual Golden Mike Awards in 202; and
WHEREAS, we wish Sophia all the best as she returns to Los Angeles to be closer to her family. We thank her for the powerful and meaningful stories she told for our community; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we, Mayor Jerry Dyer and the Fresno City Council, do hereby recognize and honor:
“Sophia Maria Lesseos Day”
in the City of Fresno.
