CITYOFFRESNOOiceofCouncilmemberNelsonEsparza&CouncilPresidentAnnalisaPerea Isherebypresentedinhonorof:

ManufacturingMonth
WHEREAS:OctoberhasbeenofficiallydesignatedasNationalManufacturingMonthtoshineaspotlightonAmericanindustry, offeringinvaluableeducationalopportunitiesthatinspirestudents,parents,andeducatorstoengagewithandsupportthemanufacturingfield; and WHEREAS:Manufacturingcontinuestoseeawidelaborshortage,withtheManufacturingInstituteestimatingUnitedStatesmanufacturingwillhave2.1millionunfilledjobsby2030,despitean11%increaseinmanufacturingestablishmentsbetweenthefirstquarterof2019andthesecondquarterof2023.InCaliforniaalone,we experiencea significantlabordeficit,withapproximately35%of availablemanufacturingpositionsgoingunfilled; and WHEREAS:ManufacturingplaysacrucialroleintheeconomyoftheCentralValley, contributingaremarkable$19.3billiontotheregionalGDPeachyear. Thisvibrantsectoremploys115,000residentsacrossthevalley, withover27,000dedicatedindividualsworkingrighthereinFresno;and WHEREAS:ManufacturingMonthprovidesanexceptionalopportunitytoelevateawarenessoftheimportanceofmanufacturing—notonlyforournationasa wholebutparticularlyforourcommunityinFresno.Itpromotesjobgrowth,fostersskillsdevelopment,andenhancesupwardmobilityaswestriveforamorerobustlocaleconomy;and WHEREAS:Itisimportanttohighlightthecollaborationbetweenlocalgovernments,businesses,educationalinstitutions,laborunions,andcommunitymemberstobuildafutureskilledworkforcethatisadeptatmeetingtheevolvingneedsofthemanufacturingindustry; and WHEREAS:DuringManufacturingMonth,theCityofFresnoextendsitsheartfeltgratitudetotheleadersandworkersof ourmanufacturingindustry. Theirunwaveringdedicationandhardworkcontributeimmenselyto thestrengthandresilienceofourlocaleconomy, craftingquality“MadeinAmerica”productsthatweproudlystandbehind.

NOWTHEREFOREBEITRESOLVED:thatwe,CouncilmemberNelsonEsparza,CouncilPresidentAnnalisaPerea,andMayorJerryP. Dyer, andtheFresnoCityCouncil,doherebyproclaim,themonthofOctober2024,as:
