RESOLUTION NO. ____________
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FRESNO, CALIFORNIA NAMING THE TRAIL TO BE
LOCATED AT FANNING DITCH BETWEEN WEST AVENUE
AND THORNE AVENUE “RASHAD AL-HAKIM JR. TRAIL”
WHEREAS, the City is in the process of constructing a new trail along Fanning Ditch from the intersection of S West Avenue and W Florence Avenue; and WHEREAS, this new trail will install a Class I Trail and provide much needed tree canopy and landscaping to West Fresno; and
WHEREAS, this new trail will provide pedestrian and bicycle safety to Southwest Fresno residents; and
WHEREAS, Rashad Al-Hakim Jr. was described as a fun-loving child who enjoyed playing basketball and nature; and
WHEREAS, Rashad Al- Hakim Jr. was a bright and encouraging individual to all his peers and classmates; and
WHEREAS, Rashad Al -Hakim Jr . was an active member at Saint Rest Baptist Church in Southwest Fresno; and
WHEREAS, Rashad Al-Hakim Jr.’s life was tragically taken at the age of 15 in a hit and run in October 2022; and
WHEREAS, Rashad Al -Hakim Jr .’s family which includes mother Ragina Bell, father Rashad Al -Hakim Sr., and siblings Rodney, Leearah, Jazarah and Zaleeah, classmates, and community members continue to remember and honor Al -Hakim Jr.’s life; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to Fresno Municipal Code Section 5-101 the Council has the ability to name or rename public facilities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Fresno as follows:
1. The future trail located at Fanning Ditch between West Avenue and Thorne Avenue shall hereafter be named “Rashad Al-Hakim Jr. Trail.”
2. This Resolution is adopted in accordance with Section 8 of Administrative Order 6-2.
3. The provisions of Resolution No. 2020-272 shall be waived with respect to this Resolution.
4. This resolution shall be effective upon final approval.
