Re: Protect Students’ Access to the I AM Valuable Mentoring Program Dear Fresno City Council,
I am writing as a concerned community member to ask for your support in protecting the I AM Valuable Mentoring Program in Fresno Unified School District.

On March 20, 2024, Fresno Unified School Board approved On Ramps Economic Development Corporation (OREDC) to provide free mentoring services to students. For the past four years, this program has supported K–12 students without any issues, helping them thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

But on August 21, 2025, Fresno Unified employees told program interns they could no longer return to campuses—without any notice to the organization or explanation to families. This decision unfairly punishes students and appears to be driven by personal grievances, not the best interests of children.

Our students deserve every opportunity to succeed, and denying them access to free, high-quality mentoring is unjust. I urge you to:

1. Ensure Fresno Unified reinstates the I AM Valuable Mentoring Program.

2. Hold the district accountable for transparent and fair treatment of community partners.

3. Stand up for equity so that students and families are not harmed by discriminatory actions.

Thank you for standing with Fresno’s most vulnerable children.

Sincerely,

Essie Patrick
