WHEREAS, the country continues to experience a mental health crisis, with almost 90% of citizens believing they have mental health disorders. This crisis is one that needs to be surrounded by constant conversation and awareness. Institutions like the Khalsa Community Center are vital spaces for these conversations, especially for Sikh and Punjabi communities who face difficulty accessing healthcare due to language barriers; and
WHEREAS, the Khalsa Community Center stands as the first Punjabi-Sikh Mental Health and Cultural Center in the world. Located near California State Route 99 and Golden State Boulevard, it proudly serves residents in the great City of Fresno; and
WHER EAS, this unique center offers a wealth of free resources and services, including therapy, academic tutoring to cultural events advancing its mission to empower individuals and families through holistic support, while proudly celebrating and preserving the rich Punjabi-Sikh culture and heritage; and
WHER EAS, this center is a sanctuary for healing, resilience, and spiritual growth. Whether through counseling, recovery support, or simply connecting with others the Khalsa Community Center offers an anchor of hope, meeting the needs of those facing financial hardship, language barriers, or limited access to education and healthcare; and
WHEREAS, we proudly recognize and celebrate the Khalsa Community Center for transforming inaccessibility into opportunity, establishing a trusted hub that bridges the gap between healthcare professionals and the community, and encouraging residents to seek the care they need to support the health and well-being of all who call the Great City of Fresno home.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, Mayor Jerry P. Dyer, Councilmember Annalisa Perea, and the Fresno City Councilmembers, do hereby proclaim Thursday, September 25, 2025, to be:
“Khalsa Community Center”
in the City of Fresno.
