WHEREAS, houses of worship have long stood as places of peace, reflection, and community —providing comfort, moral guidance, and connection for people of every faith and background; and
WHEREAS, recent acts of violence targeting religious institutions across the nation—including attacks on churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples —represent heartbreaking assaults not only on people of faith, but on the shared values of tolerance, freedom, and human dignity that unite us all; and
WHEREAS, such acts of hate and terror seek to instill fear and division, but the people of Fresno stand firmly together in solidarity with all faith communities, rejecting violence, discrimination, and intolerance in every form; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fresno recognizes that freedom of religion is a foundational right, and that every person should be able to worship, or not worship, according to their conscience without fear of persecution, intimidation, or harm; and
WHEREAS, our city’s strength lies in its diversity of beliefs and traditions, and we honor the contributions of all religious communities that work daily to uplift others through compassion, service, and love of neighbor; and
WHEREAS, it is essential that we continue to build bridges of understanding and partnership between faiths, fostering dialogue, trust, and shared commitment to peace and justice.
