WHEREAS, the United Nations General Assembly recognizes December 18 every year as International Migrants Day to recognize the contributions of migrants while also highlighting the challenges migrants face; and
WHEREAS, migrants often have temporary, uncertain, or no immigration status and may be exposed to precarious and vulnerable working and living conditions with limited access to essential services; and
WHEREAS, despite the challenges they face, migrants have proven to be a source of prosperity, innovation, and sustainable development to this country; and
WHEREAS, immigrants from across the globe call Fresno their home and choose to work, live, and raise their families here for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, International Migrants Day is an opportunity to celebrate the continuation of migrants in the City of Fresno and to raise awareness of the thousands of international migrants who come to Fresno each year; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Fresno City Council and Mayor Jerry P.
Dyer, do hereby proclaim the 18th of December 2025 to be:
International Migrants Day
in the City of Fresno.
