DISCUSSION
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) has awarded the Fullerton Police Department a $285,000 continuing “Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP)” grant. The 2022-23 STEP grant reduces the number of deaths and injuries involving alcohol, speed, red light running and other primary collision factors. The Fullerton Police Department has received this grant in each fiscal year from 2013 to 2022. Awards fund the operation of DUI Checkpoints, DUI Saturation Patrols, Court Stings, Warrant Service Operations, Stakeout Operations, Know Your Limit campaigns, Traffic Enforcement, Distracted Driving Enforcement, Bike and Pedestrian Enforcement, Traffic Safety Presentations, Click It or Ticket campaigns and Motorcycle Operations. The STEP grant has previously purchased equipment such as a radar trailer and message board, a DUI checkpoint trailer and supplies and radars with holsters. City Council must approve the grant before the City can receive this funding.
