SUBJECT: REQUEST TO REMOVE GREEN ZONE - 912 E.
COMMONWEALTH AVENUE
SUMMARY
Consider a request to remove the green zone in front of 912 E. Commonwealth Avenue designating said area as 15-minute parking.
RECOMMENDATION
Concur with the City Traffic Engineer’s recommendation and recommend to City Council for approval to remove the existing green zone in front of 912 E. Commonwealth Avenue, as shown in Exhibit “A” (Attachment 1).
DISCUSSION
In May 2018, City Council approved a property owner request to install a green zone in front of the home business at 912 E. Commonwealth Avenue, designating said area as 15-minute parking between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm, Monday through Saturday, holidays exempt. The green zone was installed at that time to provide short- term parking for deliveries.
The property owner has recently requested that the existing green zone be removed since it is no longer needed, and it negatively impacts the availability of on-street parking for the new tenants that have moved into the property.
Since the green zone was installed specifically for 912 E. Commonwealth Avenue, its removal is not expected to negatively impact adjacent residents, tenants, or property owners. Removal of the green zone would revert this curb space back to unrestricted parking except for the “Early Morning Parking” restriction between the hours of 2:00am and 5:00am.

Based on the purpose the green zone was established and the property owner’s current request for removal, the City Traffic Engineer; therefore, recommends the removal of the green zone in front of 912 E. Commonwealth Avenue.
