FISCAL IMPACT
This purchase has no General Fund impact or additional appropriation needed. The cost for the new Emergency Generator for Fire Station 1 totals $141,701. The Fiscal Year (FY) 2023-24 Adopted Budget annual Vehicle Replacement Program (Fund 64) includes this cost.
DISCUSSION
Staff requests approval to purchase a new emergency generator at Fire Station 1 to replace a 33-year-old generator that has met its useful life. All Fire Stations have emergency generators to open garage doors and run equipment, computers and radios in the event a station loses power. This guarantees that the Fire Department can respond to emergencies in a timely manner during a power outage. This purchase would replace a 1993 emergency generator (948A) at Fire Station 1, scheduled for replacement under the City Vehicle Replacement Program in the FY 2023-24 Budget.
The Vehicle Replacement Fund is an Internal Service Fund with allocations spread across all departments utilizing vehicles or large equipment. The Public Works Department works cooperatively with other departments to determine replacement needs and purchase vehicles and equipment at the end of their useful life in an efficient manner. The Public Works Department collects these funds through an Inter-Department Service Fund program expressly to replace specified vehicles and equipment for each department.
Staff received seven bids for an emergency generator on July 19, 2023. Staff considered two of the bids incomplete and nonresponsive.
