Senior Advisory Commission Structure and Plan
Senior Advisory Commission Structure and Plan
Staff researched local and statewide Senior Committees/Commissions and spoke with the management staff who oversee these committees/commissions.
Staff and Senior Citizens Club of Fullerton, located at the Fullerton Community Center, work closely to provide daily senior programming and meet monthly to hear their concerns, ideas, and programming recommendations.
Staff developed two options based on the information received. With either option, they offer a chance for the senior’s voices to be heard and have their input communicated directly to the City Council.
Recommendations
Option 1: Direct staff to draft the necessary ordinance to change one of the two at-large commissioners to be a Fullerton resident aged 60 and over to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
There is no fiscal impact
Option 2: Direct staff to take the necessary steps to create a new Senior Advisory Commission consisting of seven (7) members made up of five appointed by the City Council, a representative from the Fullerton Senior Club, and one at-large member aged 60 years and over.
The cost to administer a new Senior Advisory Commission is estimated at $3,600 per year from the General Fund in staff time to attend and prepare meeting materials.
