SUBJECT: VALENCIA DRIVE CONNECTOR STREET NAME ASSIGNMENT

SUMMARY
Staff recommends City Council assign a name to approximately five hundred feet of roadway between South Raymond Avenue and East Valencia Drive as East Valencia Way.

RECOMMENDATION
Adopt Resolution No. 2023-XXX.

RESOLUTION NO. 2023-XXX – A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FULLERTON, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNING THE NAME OF THE ROADWAY SEGMENT BETWEEN SOUTH RAYMOND AVENUE AND EAST VALENCIA DRIVE AS EAST VALENCIA WAY

CITY MANAGER REMARKS
The City Manager recommends approval of the Resolution.

PRIORITY POLICY STATEMENT
This item matches the following Priority Policy Statement:

Infrastructure and City Assets.

FISCAL IMPACT
The Fiscal Year 2023-24 Adopted Budget includes costs for installation and maintenance of signs for the proposed street name assignment. Staff estimates that the street name assignment would require installation of one post and two street name signs.

DISCUSSION
The Raymond Avenue Grade Separation Project built a five-hundred-foot roadway providing access from Raymond Avenue to Valencia Drive. This project referenced the roadway as the Valencia Drive connector but did not formally assign a street name.

Staff recommends City Council assign the name East Valencia Way to this segment, consistent with the grade separation located at South Lemon Avenue where East Walnut Way provides access from South Lemon Avenue to East Walnut Avenue. Assigning the East Valencia Way name would also clearly designate new addresses for future developments that may use this roadway for access.

Staff contacted the United States Postal Service (USPS) and confirmed that the name assignment would not conflict with postal service operations. USPS also confirmed that the proposed name assignment would not affect any residents or businesses as no addresses exist on the roadway.
