Proposal | Fullerton Public Library totalAMH System
Executive Summary
To Bethany, Alysha and colleagues:
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this RFQ regarding Fullerton Public Library’s Au- tomated Material Handling (AMH) System. We would welcome the opportunity partner with Fullerton Public Library (FPL) on your mission to empower your staff, your patrons, and your community.
We understand that FPL is looking for an AMH system that provides a positive user experi - ence for both patrons and staff, streamlines the workflow while making the most of the unique space alloted, and is built to last.
Efficiency and Ergonomics for Staff and Patrons
Many vendors require that patrons and staff navigate a return interface, process items one- by-one, and deal with any “rejected” items (i.e. items that, for whatever reason, have an un - readable RFID tag) at the point of induction. Such a workflow is not true automation—it simply passes the burden of check-in to patrons and staff. Instead of this, Tech Logic’s totalAMH systems allow patrons and staff to simply place handful-sized stacks of items into the system and then walk away.
The totalAMH system involves no manual check-in, no singular-item processing, and no re - jection of items at the induction point. The totalAMH system separates item stacks and the system (not the user) takes the burden of non-readable items by sorting them to a designated bin. For more information about this workflow, please see pages 6-13.
This video showcases how Tech Logic’s proven totalAMH design empowers staff and patrons with true automation at Round Rock Public Library (TX).
Proposal | Fullerton Public Library totalAMH System
We want to note that interface-free induction of multi-item stacks, automatic separation of stacked items, and other fully automated workflows have been standard on our AMH systems for 25 years. We know how to reliably and automatically separate items, so patrons and staff don’t have to.
Optimized Workflow, Sorting Profiles, and Notifications Tech Logic’s totalAMH systems include a comprehensive monitoring and management inter- face at the AMH location (and also accessible remotely via Remote Desktop Login or another remote connection software in use by the library) from which users can access system per - formance statistics, monitor the status and real-time activity of each section of conveyance, see when bins are full, conduct troubleshooting, and make configurations based on library operations and sorting strategy.
Sorting Profiles. Tech Logic’s totalAMH system uses customizable sorting profiles made up of library-selected ILS data/directive categories such as holds, transits, transit holds, collec - tion code, call number, set information, and/or mode (i.e. normal, nighttime, accumulation/ weekend). To start, these data/directive categories are gathered from the library prior to the shipment of the machine and pre-programmed into the system as sorting profiles according to the library’s selected sorting strategies. After the initial programming, libraries are able to create sorting profiles, modify them, and easily switch between as many sort profiles as they need (up to 99) through a drop-down menu.
Backdating. The effective date is configurable and the interface shows the configured effec - tive date on-screen.
Email Notifications. The library can also configure email notifications for any or all of the fol - lowing events: belt jams; full bins; SIP connection issue (after a configurable number of re - tries); induction issue.
Longevity and Reliability
The Tech Logic team designs, manufactures, and tests all of our systems at our headquarters in Oakdale, MN. To ensure quality, we’re devoted to keeping our entire manufacturing pro - cess at our Minnesota facility. Our systems are built to last and enjoy proactive servicing be - cause of our first-year warranty and subsequent years’ dedicated preventative maintenance and support.
Tech Logic is very proud of the lifespan of our solutions. Rather than announcing an “end of life” for any of our totalAMH systems, we work very closely throughout each year with our li - braries to keep totalAMH systems operational and up-to-date year after year.

AMH Vendor Questions
1) Given our space, which models of AMH systems do you think that we should consider? Would they require any additional modification given our two access points? We’ve designed the proposed totalAMH solution specifically for your space. Please see our drawings and renderings on pages 24 and 25 to see our suggested layout to fit your space and needs.
2) Is it possible to continue the current system that allows patrons to view their returns? Do any recommended systems include a return-receipt option? Yes, it is possible to continue the current system that allows patrons to view their return being processed on the system. Regarding receipts: The totalAMH system is designed for fast, convenient, multi-item patron returns without navigating a screen interface, so they do not use printed receipts. Printed receipts require patrons to begin the session, return items one-at-a-time into the drop, and end the session. With Tech Logic’s reliable multi-item re - turns, patrons simply place items into the return and walk away—and they learn quickly that returned items are checked into the ILS immediately upon return. Our customers tell us that printed receipts do not justify slower patron returns, paper supply costs, and the labor cost to stock and service return interfaces and printers. If the library desires, email receipts are available when the library’s ILS supports them through SIP check-in functions. 3) What are the bin quantity options for any recommended models? Is it possible to order additional bins?
Yes, bins are available for purchase in any quantity. We recommend having a bin for each sort location and, if desired, one extra bin for switching out and processing full bins. We have included information about our smartBIN (page 10) and easyBIN (page 12) but please also note that the totalAMH system can work with any bin or tote that fits within the sort location area—it doesn’t have to be provided by Tech Logic. 4) How are bins programmed to sort? How adjustable is that sorting process and can it be controlled locally or only by the vendor?
The totalAMH system uses customizable sorting profiles to implement the library’s sorting strategies. Sorting profiles are configured using ILS data/directives such as holds, transits, transit holds, collection code, call number, set information, and more. These can be con - trolled locally. Libraries can create their own sort profiles and can also switch between them through a drop-down menu to adjust to changing needs, strategies, and tasks. The menu can hold up to 99 sort profiles at a time. Tech Logic will train library staff on selecting, creat- ing, and modifying sorting profiles locally. We are always happy to consult with the library about sorting strategy. We’ve been working exclusively with libraries for over 25 years, and we know each library is unique and requires a personal, consultative, flexible approach.
Proposal | Fullerton Public Library totalAMH System
5) Are the bins elevator bins? What ergonomic features are included in the user experience of the AMH system?
Tech Logic’s sorting bins are created with ergonomic advantages. Whether through spring-loaded flooring or electronic floor adjustment, all of our available bins feature an adjusting floor so materials remain at a comfortable working height, no matter the item volume currently held in the bin. This is important because it virtually eliminates situations in which a staff member would bend down to empty a bin.
Tech Logic’s smartBINs are equipped with infrared photo sensors that control the height of the automatic bin floor. The bin floor will rise or descend automatically when items are placed inside or removed from the bin. This ensures that materials never fall more than six inches into the bin and that staff are able to comfortably empty the bin. Staff can easily switch between automatic and manual floor controls. A fully-loaded smartBIN can hold between 125 and 150 items and can be easily be maneuvered by staff members. Our smartBIN is built to endure constant transit—the large, durable polyurethane wheels allow for items to not only be easily moved within the sorting facility, but also across asphalt, concrete, dirt, or gravel. One full smartBIN can save a staff member from lifting, moving, and stacking five (5) standard-sized totes. For more information about our smartBINS, please see page 10.
Tech Logic’s easyBINs each hold between 125 and 150 items and come standard with pad- ded, spring-loaded flooring that keeps materials at the top of the bin for gentle induction and easy unloading. Our easyBIN comes with lockable wheels and a light, sturdy frame— ready for constant use. For more information about our easyBINS, please see page 12. 6) Does it have (or can it have) an acrylic dust shield over top? Are there any other unique physical aspects of this system?
Tech Logic’s totalAMH systems do not require a dust shield, but, if the library desires, we can implement a protective covering for the proposed system. We could quote this imple- mentation upon request.
7) What is the decibel level of the AMH while running?
Tech Logic’s totalAMH system runs at or below 65 decibels when operating and 55 decibels in standby mode.
8) What issues or problems have other libraries reported with those models? Since 1997, our totalAMH designs have been constantly tested, refined, and proven in the library industry. Rather than implementing an “end of life” for our totalAMH systems, we work very closely with our libraries to keep totalAMH systems operational and up to date through our out-year maintenance programs.
Proposal | Fullerton Public Library totalAMH System
Tech Logic’s totalAMH system is designed exclusively for Library materials. However, the following materials have specific considerations. We cannot guarantee 100% successful sorting of the material categories outlined below. Items in these four categories may need staff attention:
• Materials with thickness smaller than 3/16 inch;
• Materials with minor dimensions smaller than 4 inches; • Materials with major dimensions greater than 16 inches, and; • Materials with worn or malfunctioning identification labels The proposed totalAMH system is not designed to process items in the following catego - ries (below):
• Materials with covers that are off (i.e. puzzles, games, etc.); • Materials contained in thin or limp bags;
• Materials with loose, torn or bent covers or with rolled or curled pages; • A/V materials with open covers, or items that have come out of their containers; • Materials with protruding paper such as bookmarks or “date due” slips; • Paper bags;
• Mailing tubes;
• Sheet music, newspapers, or magazines that are not in a hard case; • Transparent items;
• Children’s toys that are not in a hard case;
• Other items that are not part of the Library’s circulating library collection. 9) What (if any) regular maintenance or checks are library staff members expected to per - form? How often does it have to be shut off?
Tech Logic’s totalAMH systems are designed to operate 24/7/365 with minimal interaction.
When addressing the items, below, however, the staff member will want to hit an E-Stop to pause the system. Tech Logic provides a daily/weekly/monthly totalAMH maintenance sheet to all AMH customers outlining our recommended maintenance to be performed by the library as outlined on the schedule. There are five major preventative maintenance objectives:
1. Keep the machine clean. Periodically clean dirt from sensitive areas. Certain items such as photo eyes require periodic cleaning because they are sensitive to deposits of dirt and dust. Keep the area around the system clear of clutter and maintain easy access for oper - ators. Do not attempt to clean the system when it is operating. Follow the maintenance checklist for cleaning frequency.
Proposal | Fullerton Public Library totalAMH System
2. Keep an eye and ear out for symptoms of a failing component. If a part fails, there are usually symptoms such as unusual wear on products, poor performance, or unusual noise or vibration. Periodic inspection and a diligent operator usually identify these conditions in advance of a failure.
3. Provide lubrication. Occasional lubrication is required to prevent premature wear or fail- ure on moving parts.
4. Provide slight periodic adjustments. Parts of this system may need slight adjustment over time with exposure to vibration, shock, or aging. This adjustment is normally required when a user or one of Tech Logic’s preventative maintenance technicians notices changes in the performance of the system.
5. Inspect components for normal wear and tear. Some mechanical parts wear out through use, and their replacement is expected. These replacements are typically not scheduled, but they are done as required, based on observation of performance.
6. Record Keeping. Tech Logic recommends that an activity log is kept to provide tracking of service and operating issues. The activity log should include records of the following five items: Operating activities; Unplanned system stoppages with date, time, cause, operator name, and action; Damaged library items; Maintenance records; and Calls to Tech Logic.
Tech Logic offers comprehensive preventative maintenance and technical support to max- imize product reliability and performance. Our full-service and maintenance offerings are designed so that you can select the level of service that meets your library’s specific busi- ness needs. For more information about our totalAMH maintenance programs, please see the section beginning on page 46.
10) Do any system models that you offer work with any RFID systems? Tech Logic’s RFID Technologies follow the ISO25860 library Standard and we have a very wide selection of RFID data model compatibility. Tech Logic is committed to ongoing com- patibility with the applicable ISO standard and interoperability with corresponding industry standards and technologies.
11) What are our service contract options: are there different levels of service available? What is done in terms of preventative maintenance beyond just repairing or fixing reported issues?
Tech Logic is committed to the FPL’s full acceptance of and ongoing success with the pro- posed totalAMH solution. Our 25+ years of experience and insight into library workflow are at your disposal for the long term, because your ongoing success is our success.
Tech Logic offers comprehensive service and technical support to maximize product reli - ability and performance, which includes a complimentary first-year warranty on all products and a complimentary first-year preventative maintenance visit. For details regarding the complimentary first-year warranty, please see page 39.
Proposal | Fullerton Public Library totalAMH System
All first-year and out-year preventative maintenance visits are onsite and include compre - hensive examination and testing of the system, addressing any issues, servicing any adjust- able or replaceable parts that need attention, and, as needed, providing insight for library stakeholders regarding any system questions.
After the first-year warranty, our annual service offerings are designed so that you can select the level of service that meets your specific needs. After the library’s complimentary first- year warranty expires, libraries choose one of the following programs for ongoing annual service and support.
Preventative Maintenance Program (PM1)
Tech Logic’s PM1 Program includes one annual onsite preventative maintenance visit, re - mote technical support (outlined on page 46), and discounts on any necessary replace - ment parts. Labor, parts, and travel for onsite service (outside of the included preventative maintenance visit) will be quoted as an additional cost. For more details, please see pages 45 and 46.
Warranty Continuation Program (WCP)
As an alternative to the PM1 program, Tech Logic’s WCP covers all expenses for twice-annu- al onsite preventative maintenance visits, remote technical support (outlined on page 46), onsite repair calls, parts, and shipping. This is a continuance of your first-year “bumper-to- bumper” warranty, in effect every year with NO additional costs for parts, software, labor, travel, nights, weekends, and/or overtime. For more details, please see pages 45 and 47. 12) How does the machine function when it jams or items otherwise become stuck? If it needs to be reset, can we do it locally or does it require a service call to stay in keeping with the service contract?
Tech Logic’s totalAMH system uses a series of photo eyes to follow all items as they make their way from the book drop to the bin. This makes troubleshooting very easy in the event of a jam because the software will indicate on the system’s monitor exactly where the fault occurred and the nature of that fault. Once a jam is addressed, library staff can reset the machine locally.
13) How can we reach out for service: phone call to general help center/individual rep? Email? Support portal?
As part of the complimentary first-year warranty and then the library’s selected out-year maintenance program, Tech Logic offers the following remote service and technical sup - port to maximize product reliability and performance.
• Toll-free phone support, available as a standard service (1-866-880-9981). • Email support via [email protected]
• A web-based ticket entry system that provides 24/7 online access
Proposal | Fullerton Public Library totalAMH System
• Scheduled updates of Tech Logic software, included with Purchaser’s First-Year War- ranty and subsequent Software License
Most situations are resolved by remote technical support within the first interaction. For more details, please see our Customer Care Guidelines beginning on page 36. 14) When issues are reported, how quickly are they resolved? Is there a difference when reporting a software vs . har dware problem?
The beginning point of content is the same, whether the issue is software or hardware.
When the library makes contact with Tech Logic’s customer care team during normal oper- ating hours via our toll-free number (1-866-880-9981) or via email (customercare@tech-log- ic.com) the library will be connected with our customer care team. Or, if the library makes contact via 24/7 web-based ticket entry system, the customer care team will reach out to the library regarding the ticket. Once contact is made, the customer care specialist will ac- tivate remote access to the product (with the library’s permission) to analyze the issue. The customer care specialist will, if at all possible, resolve the issue within the remote session.
Otherwise, the customer care specialist will propose a plan of action, working closely with the library to secure a timeline and procedure for resolution based on the severity of the issue and corresponding with relevant warranty, software license, or maintenance program considerations.
Response/Resolution Benchmarks
Tech Logic works diligently to resolve all support requests as quickly as possible upon re - ceipt.
• Most situations are resolved by remote technical support within the first interaction. • If onsite work is needed, we have four trained technicians in the greater Los Angeles area.
If needed, Tech Logic will assign a priority level to each support request and designate resources to resolve each issue according to its priority and resolution benchmarks (out - lined below). Please note that, while we take every support request very seriously and make every effort to resolve each issue as quickly as possible, the resolution benchmarks shown here should not be construed as guarantees.
Priority 1: Priority 1 is a complete loss of service, meaning that the library is unable use the equipment. Typically, the issue has one or more of the following characteristics: Hardware failure makes the equipment unusable; Software does not start; Software crashes and is unrecoverable. Priority 1 Benchmarks: Resolution plan proposed no more than three hours from support request; Resolution implemented no more than one business day from sup- port request (plus any applicable shipping time).
Priority 2: Priority 2 is a production-inhibiting problem that causes a software error or in - termittent behavior that leads to partial loss of service. Operations, however, can continue in a restricted fashion. Typically, the issue has one or more of the following characteristics:
Proposal | Fullerton Public Library totalAMH System
Software fails, but restart or recovery is possible; Hardware failure, but a restart provides recovery of operation; Software performance is degraded; A major feature is broken that seriously impacts usability and productivity. Priority 2 Benchmarks: Resolution plan pro - posed no more than one business day from support request; Resolution implemented no more than two business days from support request (plus any applicable shipping time).
Priority 3: Priority 3 involves a question about a specific usage or feature of the product, or a problem that causes minor operational inconvenience. Typically, the issue has one or more of the following characteristics: Software or hardware issue for which there is an acceptable work-around; Software error or hardware issue in which the operational impact is minimal.
Priority 3 Benchmarks: Resolution plan proposed no more than three business days from support request; Resolution implemented within a timeframe that is agreed upon with the library.
15) Are there limits to which library staff members can contact support that are set by the service provider?
No, there aren’t limits to which library staff can contact Tech Logic support using the follow- ing methods: Toll-free phone support, available as a standard service (1-866-880-9981); Email support via [email protected]; A web-based ticket entry system that pro- vides 24/7 online access.
16) Can you provide examples of libraries that use each recommended system and also use Horizon? Does the AMH software have any problems integrating with the ILS or communi- cating with other library technology like printers?
The proposed totalAMH system works seamlessly with Horizon, communicating via SIP2.
We have many AMH customers who use the Horizon ILS. Please also feel free to contact the libraries that we have listed and ask about their experience, we feel that peer reviews are extremely useful when researching a new AMH system.

17) Are there any item types that you do not recommend allowing patrons to put through the AMH? Are there any item types that libraries have reported being damaged by the AMH system?
Tech Logic’s totalAMH system is designed exclusively for Library materials. However, the following materials have specific considerations.
We cannot guarantee 100% successful sorting of the material categories outlined below.
Items in these four categories may need staff attention:
• Materials with thickness smaller than 3/16 inch;
• Materials with minor dimensions smaller than 4 inches; • Materials with major dimensions greater than 16 inches, and; • Materials with worn or malfunctioning identification labels
Proposal | Fullerton Public Library totalAMH System
The proposed totalAMH system is not designed to process items in the following catego - ries (below):
• Puzzles and games with covers that are off.
• Materials contained in thin or limp bags;
• Materials with loose, torn or bent covers or with rolled or curled pages; • A/V materials with open covers, or items that have come out of their containers; • Materials with protruding paper such as bookmarks or “date due” slips; • Paper bags;
• Mailing tubes;
• Sheet music, newspapers, or magazines that are not in a hard case; • Transparent items;
• Children’s toys that are not in a hard case;
• Other items that are not part of the Library’s circulating collection. 18) How significantly do associated costs rise each year on average? Are there any addition- al costs not covered by the initial contract that may arise in this process or from changes that libraries have made after the initial considerations?
After the first-year warranty, our annual service offerings are designed so that you can se - lect the level of service that meets your specific needs. After the library’s complimentary first-year warranty expires, libraries choose one of the following programs for ongoing an- nual service and support. Beginning in year three, costs for these programs automatically increase by 2% per year, unless prepaid. Please find sample payment terms on page 28.
For more details, please see pages 46 and 47.
For more details, please see pages 46 and 48.
Proposal | Fullerton Public Library totalAMH System
There are some other specific circumstances that may include a cost. For example, after the complimentary first-year warranty, bins and other sorting containers do not fall within the scope of out-year service programs and are the responsibility of the library. Also, technical work completed by Tech Logic in order to accommodate corrections to the library’s net - work or changes to the library’s ILS are a billable service. Another example is non-covered items or scenarios (as outlined in our sample terms and conditions—please see page 41) such as vandalism, natural disasters, any damage caused from induction of items not in the library’s circulation, and other extreme circumstances. For details, please find our sample terms and conditions beginning on page 39.
19) Is there anything else that you would like to share about your represented libraries’ ex - periences with your AMH system?
Our AMH customers have accomplished amazing things with their totalAMH systems! We’ve included example stories within this proposal, beginning on page 49.
We want to note that interface-free induction of multi-item stacks, automatic separation of stacked items, and other automated workflows have been standard on our AMH systems for 25 years. We know how to reliably and automatically separate items, so patrons and staff don’t have to. We would encourage FPL to contrast this with our competitors, who have only recently shifted from their one-at-a-time manual workflow using unproven systems. 20) While we will likely only be replacing the AMH at this time, as the AMH, gates, RFID system, and self-checkout machines are part of a single contract currently, we would like contract options that reflect both replacing just the AMH and also replacing/continuing ev - erything . Is this possible?
Yes, we would be happy to discuss our other RFID solutions, including gates and self-check- out machines, and implement a contract that encompasses all solutions. 21) We would not be installing the new AMH until June/July 2024, but understand the need to place the order significantly in advance to allow for design, shipping, installation, and other timebound factors . As a project of this magnitude likely requires approval from mul - tiple boards and City Council and may take time to gain approval, would any prices offered remain firm until approval can be achieved? Would payments be required throughout the process or only upon project completion?
Yes, the proposed prices can remain firm for 90 days. If the City has any questions or needs, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We have included our sample payment terms within page 28 of this proposal. These sam - ple payment terms are meant to serve as informational; please note that Tech Logic is open to discussing payment terms.

PLEASE NOTE: The following is only intended for informational purposes. Tech Logic is open to discussing payment terms.
Quoted prices are valid for 180 days. If the library requests a delay between purchase order and delivery, such a delay may cause price changes in order to accommodate significant vari- ations in market price for parts and materials. These market-price variations for parts and ma- terials are outside of Tech Logic’s control. For questions about this, please reach out to your Tech Logic Solutions Specialist—we are committed to working closely and transparently with you during these unique times.
Shipping charges estimated on all quoted products shipping at the same time F.O.B. destina- tion. Shipping is estimated and calculated using today’s rates to one receiving location, unless otherwise noted. Additional shipping charges may apply. Multiple shipments may result in increased charges.
I. A first payment, in an amount of forty percent (40%) of the Contract Price, shall be due within ten (10) days after the Effective Date. Work pursuant to this Agreement shall not begin until such payment is received and verified by Tech Logic.
II. A second payment, in an amount of fifty percent (50%) of the Contract Price, shall be due within ten (10) days after a Notice of Completion of Manufacturing Design is submitted to Library.
III. A third payment, in the amount of (5%) of the Contract Price, shall be due within ten (10) days of the date on which notification is made by Tech Logic to Library that manufacturing, final testing and pre-shipment inspection of the TLS is complete and ready to be shipped to Library. Library has the right and may elect to inspect the TLS (at the Library’s expense) prior to actual shipment to Library. Failure of the Library to inspect the TLS prior to shipment to the Library shall not cause a delay of the third payment to Tech Logic.
IV. Final payment, in an amount of five percent (5%) of the Contract Price, plus all additional payments required under executed Change Orders, if any, shall be paid within ten (10) days of Tech Logic’s delivery to the Library of the Notice of Completion.
Further, if a delay occurs, then the final 5% payment hereunder shall be paid by Library within sixty (60) days of shipment from Tech Logic. In any event, the final 5% payment hereunder shall be paid by Library within ninety (90) days from the date on which notification is made by Tech Logic to Library that the TLS is ready for shipment to Library.
Late Payments: If any payments due from Library to Tech Logic are deemed to be, in the sole discretion of Tech Logic, overdue, then interest charges thereon shall be paid by Library to Tech Logic at a rate of one and one-half percent (1.5%) per month.
Performance Bond & Payment Bond: Costs associated with Performance & Payment bond re- quirements are the sole responsibility of the library.

Library Roles and
Responsibilities
Please note: the following list of responsibilities is intended for informational purposes only, as a foundation for further consultation.
• Production Drawing Approval . The customer reviews the system drawings with the archi- tect or other building authorities to ensure that the system contains all of the components proposed and conforms to the space available, while not interfering with other building structural elements. The key dimensions referencing elevations and layout must be verified.
The manufacturing of the system is contingent on the authorized signature of the system layout. Any changes that need to be made to the system after approval in order to allow for successful installation are contingent on a change order form (included in contract). • Interface with the ILS . The system requires an interface with the Library’s ILS. The custom- er is responsible for purchasing and/or contracting with its ILS vendor for a Standard In- terchange Protocol 2 (SIP2) connection that will allow the system to interface with the ILS. • Electrical, Mechanical, and Finishing Work . At its own expense, the customer needs to hire electrical and mechanical contractors to wire power to the system and provide any millwork necessary for installation of the system. Any building modifications required to install the sorting system are the responsibility of the customer. For electrical and data requirements, please see the mechanical drawing on page 25. • Availability of Facilities . Customers need to provide adequate work space and storage space at the installation site for Tech Logic to facilitate the installation of the system for up to four (4) of Tech Logic’s personnel. Tech Logic requires continuous free and un - obstructed access to all areas in which components will be installed, without having to move operations to other areas.
• Client Acceptance of Risk . Tech Logic needs customers to provide safe and enclosed storage of all the system components until we are onsite for installation. Except for dam- age caused by Tech Logic’s agents, the customer bears all risk of loss and damage of the system components from and after delivery at the location designated by the customer.

Remote Technical Support
When the library makes contact with Tech Logic’s customer care team during normal operat- ing hours via our toll-free number (1-866-880-9981) or via email (customercare@tech-logic. com) the library will be connected with our customer care team. Or, if the library makes contact via 24/7 web-based ticket entry system, the customer care team will reach out to the library regarding the ticket. Once contact is made, the customer care specialist will activate remote access to the product (with the library’s permission) to analyze the issue. The customer care specialist will, if at all possible, resolve the issue within the remote session. Otherwise, the cus- tomer care specialist will propose a plan of action, working closely with the library to secure a timeline and procedure for resolution based on the severity of the issue and corresponding with any relevant warranty, software license, or maintenance program considerations.
Escalated Support
Should the issue (received through our toll-free number, email, or via 24/7 web-based ticket entry system) require escalation beyond remote technical support (outlined above), the customer care specialist will escalate the case to Tech Logic’s customer care manager and the team will contact the library to establish the resolution plan. Tech Logic will provide the library with an action plan includ- ing, if needed, any anticipated parts repair/replacement or onsite time as well as a quote, if appli- cable, for any part(s), shipping, or onsite service expenses (any or all such parts, shipping, or labor charges may be waived depending on applicable warranty and/or maintenance program terms).
If return of equipment is necessary, Tech Logic will assign a return merchandise authorization (RMA) and notify the library. The library shall securely package the defective equipment and inform Tech Logic’s customer care team that the equipment is ready for shipment. Tech Logic shall not be responsible for any loss or damage incurred in shipping. All returned merchan - dise must include the RMA number. Tech Logic will send a call tag for pickup and return, with expense considerations depending on any relevant warranty, license, or maintenance program terms. Tech Logic will ship the repaired or replaced equipment back to the library via regular ground. Requests for expedited return will be accommodated, when possible, at either the Purchaser’s expense (if Purchaser has chosen PM1) or at Tech Logic’s expense (if Purchaser has chosen WCP). Expense considerations for parts, labor, shipping, etc. will de - pend on the relevant warranty, license, or maintenance program terms Should onsite service be required, Tech Logic will seek authorization from the library to ap - pear onsite. Tech Logic will dispatch a highly trained service professional to arrive onsite— generally within 24 hours, depending on the severity of the issue and on the time at which Tech Logic receives authorization for onsite service. Any charges for onsite service expenses may be waived depending on the relevant warranty, license, or maintenance program terms.

Response/Resolution Benchmarks
Tech Logic works diligently to resolve all support requests as quickly as possible upon receipt.
Most situations are resolved by remote technical support within the first interaction. If need - ed, Tech Logic will assign a priority level to each support request and designate resources to resolve each issue according to its priority and resolution benchmarks (outlined below).
Priority 2: Priority 2 is a production-inhibiting problem that causes a software error or inter- mittent behavior that leads to partial loss of service. Operations, however, can continue in a restricted fashion. Typically, the issue has one or more of the following characteristics: Soft- ware fails, but restart or recovery is possible; Hardware failure, but a restart provides recov- ery of operation; Software performance is degraded; A major feature is broken that seriously impacts usability and productivity. Priority 2 Benchmarks: Resolution plan proposed no more than one business day from support request; Resolution implemented no more than two business days from support request (plus any applicable shipping time).
Priority 3 Benchmarks: Resolution plan proposed no more than three business days from sup- port request; Resolution implemented within a timeframe that is agreed upon with the library.
System Uptime
Tech Logic works diligently to ensure optimal and up-to-date function of our products within the library’s IT ecosystem. Because the proposed Tech Logic solutions are on premise, system uptime will depend largely upon the performance of the library’s server(s), network, hardware, and other infrastructure serving the library’s premises. With this in mind, we are confident that our solutions will maintain excellent uptime. For more information, please see the Software License beginning on page 43.

TECH LOGIC SOFTWARE UPDATES AND UPGRADES . Under this software license, Tech Logic en- sures optimal functionality of Tech Logic software within the library’s IT ecosystem. Tech Logic takes care of all upgrades to our software, ensuring these updates are accomplished remotely by our cus- tomer care team with prior permission from the library for remote access. Upgrades to our software will be announced by Tech Logic and scheduled with the customer at a mutually agreed upon date and time during operating hours of Tech Logic. Should special circumstances require scheduling outside of operating hours, services will be quoted and approved by customer prior to schedul- ing. Upgrades are done via remote session with the customer’s permission. Tech Logic installs LogMeIn on each PC prior to leaving the manufacturing facility in order to remote- ly access the machine to apply any patches and/or upgrades as needed. Updates are performed by either a member of our customer care team or by one of our software engineers.
GENERIC (OS, CPU, NETWORK) MAINTENANCE AND UPDATES . When it comes to generic (e.g.
OS, CPU, library network) updates, Tech Logic’s solutions are on-premise software systems that will reside and operate on the library’s servers (onsite or virtual) and on the library’s network. Like other on-premise systems within the library, the proposed solutions will benefit from and depend on the library’s network security, backup, remediation, restoration, and update policies and procedures.

Johnson County’s Blue Valley branch
pioneered a drive-up service window in
2000. When the 40,000 square foot Lenexa
City Center branch opened in 2019, drive-
up services were a design priority for Lenexa
and other Johnson County Library building
projects. During the COVID-19 building
closure, the drive-up window dispensed
more than 18,000 holds in one month.
The drive-up returns are immediately in
front of the holds pick-up. Adam Wathen,
Associate Director for Systemwide Services,
noted that “both our staff and patrons con-
sistently express appreciation for the ease
of the drive-up book drop, especially the
added comfort of knowing items get quickly
and safely checked in even when materials
are returned outside of our open hours.”
totalAMH delivers convenience for Johnson
County (KS) Lenexa patrons and staff

“One of our five strategic
goals at Johnson County
Library is to improve the
convenience of library ser-
vices in our community.
Drive-up services are a key
aspect of accomplishing
that goal.”

presented particular drive-up challenges.
Occupying two floors at the Lenexa City
Center campus, the existing building was
surrounded by narrow streets and lacked
a location for direct drive-up access. Tech
Logic collaborated with Holzman Moss
Bottino and Hollis & Miller architects to
design a drive-up book return/holds pick-up
in the adjacent parking garage connected
to a nine-bin sorting system located on the
library’s second floor.
“Tech Logic was able to provide input
during the design process regarding all the
different components so the team could
arrive at an efficient and effective solution
for the Lenexa City Center Library,” said Rick
Schladweiler, Project Architect.
Patrons request holds pick-up in the drive-
through by designating it as their holds pick-
up location. Holds for the drive-through are
stocked by library staff during open hours
and staffed to retrieve and deliver holds
to drivers in a push-out drawer. This holds
delivery method has been especially timely
as a safe delivery option during COVID-19
building closures, serving up to 150 patrons
per day.
The nine-bin Tech Logic totalAMH receives
and merges materials to be checked in on
the sorter from book drops in the parking
garage and the entry lobbies on both floors.
The first floor drop also conveys materials
up through the floor to the second floor
sorting system. Tech Logic’s totalAMH
handles materials from all three drops as
they converge to be checked in and sorted.
Tech Logic’s two decades of experience with
vertical conveyors and structural challenges
instilled confidence in the design and
delivery of such a unique solution to serve
the Lenexa patrons.

Service to patrons and staff efficiency
at the Rita & Truett Smith Library in Wy-
lie, Texas improved dramatically after a
Tech Logic totalAMH replaced another
vendor’s outdated system.
“The drive-up book drop for the new
totalAMH is so fast now that patrons
don’t have to return one item at a time,”
says Library Director Ofilia Barrera. “And
patrons no longer have to get out of
their cars and walk up to the exterior
book drop.”
Barrera had several goals for the project
to improve service and efficiency:
• Create a functional drive-up book
drop for patrons;
• Improve the speed and conve -
nience of returns for patrons;
• Eliminate the sorter jams causing
headaches for staff;
• Reduce the noise of the old system
located off the staff workroom;
• Improve ergonomics for staff work-
ing with the AMH.

Another item on Barrera’s AMH wish list
was that the new system would re-use
the library’s existing book drop cutout—
avoiding expensive new cuts into the li-
brary’s thick stone wall. “Other vendors
told me it couldn’t be done. Our Tech
Logic Sales consultant, Tim Lawson, as-
sured me that his team would figure out
how to do it. And they did!”
“The new totalAMH is fast, quiet and never jams,” said Ofilia Barrera, Library Director at Rita & Truett Smith Library in Wy- lie, Texas. “Staff can also easily re-program the sorting profile to handle returns 24/7 on nights, weekends and holidays.” Story continues on the following page

rated the existing exterior wall cutout and
added a “bump-out” on the book drop to
make drive-up returns functional.
“Patrons noticed that they could drive
right up to the new drop and return ma-
terials by the handful—not one at a time
like before. That completely eliminated
lines of cars waiting to return materials.”
Library staff benefit from the speed and
reliability of the five-bin totalAMH. “Staff
had to clear multiple jams every day on
the old AMH. The new totalAMH is fast,
quiet and never jams,” added Barre-
ra. “Staff can also easily re-program the
sorting profile to handle returns 24/7 on
nights, weekends and holidays.”
Staff also gain better ergonomics with
staff induction onto the totalAMH and
with taller bins that don’t require reach-
ing down to clear them.
Finally, Barrera “can’t say enough about
our positive experience working with Tech
Logic. They stood out from the beginning.
Every person we worked with from the
company was patient with our questions,
knowledgeable, professional and friend-
ly. They always followed through and we
knew we were in good hands.”
The totalAMH system’s drive-up return receives items
by the handful. According to Barrera, this fast and
simple induction “completely eliminated lines of cars
waiting to return materials.”
