PRIORITY POLICY STATEMENT
This item matches the following Priority Policy Statement:

Fiscal and Organizational Stability.

FISCAL IMPACT
Staff estimates the cost to administer a new Senior Advisory Committee at $4,200 per year from the General Fund for staff time to attend meetings, prepare meeting materials and follow-up activities. Staff would evaluate any requests for additional resources in subsequent fiscal years. The Department does not request a staffing increase which would require reductions in staff time in other areas.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
City Council directed staff to establish a seven-member Senior Advisory Committee comprised of five members directly appointed by Council members, one Fullerton Senior Club representative and one at-large member, all 60 years old and older, on September 19, 2023. The Committee would hear senior voices and communicate feedback directly to City Council. The Committee would significantly enhance the quality of life for seniors in the community and address older adult needs such as education, recreation, housing, transportation, health, wellness and volunteer programs.

Senior Advisory Committee Members would advise City Council on matters related to senior and community needs and interests. The members would commit to the following objectives:

Promote City Council, City and public understanding of local senior community problems and needs.

Enable seniors to participate in various City activities/programs and make recommendations to the City Council.

The Committee would meet once per quarter beginning May 2024 and establish a regular meeting time, date and location at its first meeting.

Each member shall serve a one-year term subject to removal by City Council. A member may serve a maximum two terms. Member in good standing shall serve until City Council appoints a successor. City Council may appoint a member to more than two terms in the absence of other qualified applicants.
