RESOLUTION NO. 2024-XXX
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FULLERTON, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF A 200-FOOT SEGMENT OF WILSHIRE AVENUE, WEST OF HARBOR BOULEVARD FOR A WALK-ON-WILSHIRE (WOW) PARKLET PILOT PROGRAM WHEREAS, California Vehicle Code, Division 11, Chapter 1, Article 3, Section 21101(e), allows local authorities to temporarily close a portion of any street for “other purposes,” when, in the opinion of local authorities having jurisdiction, the closing is necessary for the safety and protection of persons who would use that portion of the street during the temporary closing.
WHEREAS, the City requires a temporary closure along a 200-foot segment of Wilshire Avenue, west of Harbor Boulevard to facilitate the Walk-on-Wilshire Parklet Pilot Program.
WHEREAS, the temporary closure, in combination with the Walk-on-Wilshire Pilot Program, would permit staff to assess open space activation options, parklet feasibility, bicycle ingress / egress through multi-modal public spaces and explore necessary findings to implement a slow streets program.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FULLERTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
The temporary closure is necessary for the safety and protection of persons that would use that portion of the street during the temporary closing.
Approve the temporary closure of a 200-foot segment of Wilshire Avenue, west of Harbor Boulevard for the purpose of the Walk-on-Wilshire Parklet Pilot Program.
Approve the temporary closure from October 15, 2024 to January 31, 2025.
