BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
The California Office of Traffic Safety awarded the Fullerton Police Department a $285,000.00 continuing “Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP)” grant. The 2024-25 STEP grant helps reduce the number of deaths and injuries involving alcohol, speed, red light running and other primary collision factors. The Fullerton Police Department previously received this grant in each fiscal year between 2013 to 2024. Awards fund DUI Checkpoint, DUI Saturation Patrol, Court Sting, Warrant Service Operations, Stakeout Operations, Know Your Limit campaigns, Traffic Enforcement, Distracted Driving Enforcement, Bike / Pedestrian Enforcement, Traffic Safety Presentations, Click It or Ticket campaigns and Motorcycle Operations. The City purchased equipment such as a radar trailer and message board, a DUI checkpoint trailer and supplies, breathalyzers and radars with holster with previous grant funding. City Council must approve the grant for the City to receive this funding.
