FISCAL IMPACT

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
The City has three librarian classifications assigned to the Library divisions – Adult Services (AS) Librarian, Children’s Services (CS) Librarian and Technical Services Librarian with each classification tailored to the respective division needs . The Library Director requests creating a generalist Librarian classification assigned to either Adult Services or Children’s Services, depending on organizational and staffing needs, to streamline job classifications and provide a more effective organizational structure. Employees assigned to AS Librarian or CS Librarian would remain in these classifications until the positions become vacant. The City would reclassify the positions to the new Librarian classification when they become vacant.
Staff does not recommend combining the Technical Services Librarian classification into this proposed generalist position given the unique and technical nature of the Technical Services Librarian responsibilities.
Human Resources recommends establishing the Librarian classification and assigning it to salary range 445, the same salary range as Adult Services Librarian and Children’s Services Librarian, resulting in no fiscal impact.
Library personnel summary revisions include replacing one vacant Children’s Services Librarian with one Librarian resulting in no net change to the FTE count for the current fiscal year.
