FISCAL IMPACT
This item generates no fiscal impact to the General Fund. The Library Foundation and Board of Trustees agreed to donate $10,000 to the Library to fund one non-regular position to implement the Local History Room digitization project. Staff requests a $10,000 budget appropriation to the Library Department non-regular budget in the Library Fund (Fund 13).
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
The Library Department began the Archival Access for All project in Fiscal Year 2024-25 to scan and upload all Fullerton News Tribune newspapers dating back to the 1920s. This is an ongoing, multi-year project and the Library Foundation approved a $10,000 funding request from a Trust to fund one year of consultant time. This funding would cover the consultant non-regular wages to assist with scanning past newspapers and uploading to the local history archives. This project would provide increased online access to Fullerton history from many different devices. This funding would cover the second year of a multiyear project.
The Library Board of Trustees approved this donation on October 23, 2025. Staff requests City Council ratify the donation, appropriate donation funds in the Library Fund for this project and initiate onboarding the nonregular, contract employee to begin work on the Local History Room digitization project.
