DISCUSSION
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) awarded the Fullerton Police Department a $288,900 continuing “Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP)” grant. The 2026-27 STEP grant helps reduce deaths and injuries involving alcohol, speed, red light running and other primary collision factors. The Fullerton Police Department received this grant in each fiscal year from 2013 to 2026. Awards fund the operation of DUI Checkpoints, DUI Saturation Patrols, Know Your Limit campaigns, Traffic Enforcement, Distracted Driving Enforcement, Bike / Pedestrian Enforcement, Traffic Safety Presentations, Click It or Ticket campaigns and Motorcycle Operations. In addition, the STEP grant previously approved equipment purchases such as a radar trailer and message board, a DUI checkpoint trailer and supplies, breathalyzers and radars with holsters. City Council must approve the grant to receive this funding.
