City Manager Dept: Public Works
Date: 5/14/2024

Subject: Award a contract to National Pools Inc., for Bid S-1324 Eastgate Park Swimming Pool Improvement Project. (Cost: $200,975) (Action Item)

OBJECTIVE

For the City Council to award National Pools Inc. a contract for the Eastgate Park Swimming Pool Improvement Project, which will replace the existing swimming pool plaster and deck coping that has degraded over the years. The final contract price will include $168,475 for furnishing and installing new pool plaster plus a bid alternate in the amount of $32,500 for furnishing and installing new pool skimmers, for a total contract price of $200,975.

BACKGROUND

The Public Works Parks Maintenance Section is responsible for maintaining three municipal pools in the City. These swimming pools are used throughout the year and are visited by many residents for swimming instruction classes and recreational swimming. The Gary Hall swimming pool at Eastgate Park is a heavily-used swimming pool during the summer months (May-September), and it is staffed by a certified pool maintenance operator to maintain pool chemistry and infrastructure.

DISCUSSION

It is paramount to remove and replace the existing plaster, as it has been in place for over fifteen years. Additionally, the recommended life span of swimming pool plaster is anywhere from ten to fifteen years per industry standards. Currently, the swimming pool plaster is pitted, and it is in need of prompt repairs.

The City requested bids for subject project (Bid S-1324), and the following are the results:

Company Name Bid Amount Alternate TOTAL BID
1 National Pools, Inc. $168,475.00 $32,500.00 $200,975.00 2 Ultimate Pool Remodeling,
Inc.
