OBJECTIVE
For the City Council to adopt a Proclamation recognizing May through August 2025, as Drowning Prevention and Awareness Season.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Orange County Fire Authority’s (OCFA) 2025 water safety campaign theme is “Always Watch the Water” and “Never Swim Alone” that begins in May and continues through August. The robust community outreach campaign aims to increase public awareness and provide education on proper safety measures and preparedness to curb the prevalence of drowning incidents. OCFA strives to empower individuals to recognize and mitigate the dangers of water-related activities and prevent tragedies.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council:
Adopt the Proclamation recognizing May through August 2025 as Drowning Prevention and Awareness Season with the City’s participation in the Orange County Fire Authority’s 2025 campaigns, “Always Watch the Water” and “Never Swim Alone.”
