Subject: Adoption of a Proclamation recognizing October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. (Action Item)
OBJECTIVE
For the City Council to adopt a Proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Since 2020, the City Council has annually adopted a Proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). This year’s DVAM campaign is “With Survivors, Always.” This theme allows communities to explore what it mean s to be in partnership with survivors and work towards safety, support and solidarity.
During Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) serves as an opportunity to raise awareness for survivors of abuse and their loved ones , victim advocates, and allied professionals. Communities come together through various events to mourn the lives lost to domestic violence, but also to celebrate the progress that has been made to end this epidemic. Adoption of an annual Proclamation validates the support of the City Council to bring awareness to the community and foster empathy for those suffering.

There is no financial impact.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council:
Adopt a Proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
