OBJECTIVE

For the City Council to approve overnight travel for Council members to participate in a Water Inspection Trip of the Hoover Dam and Colorado River Aqueduct with the Municipal Water District of Orange County.

BACKGROUND

Each year, local, county, and state elected officials, community and business leaders, educators, and industry professionals are invited to participate in inspection trips to major water facilities across California. Hosted by the Municipal Water District of Southern California and the Municipal Water District of Orange County, these hands-on tours offer a behind-the- scenes look at the challenges of water supply, water quality, conservation, and more. These inspection trips are engineered to educate community leaders and stakeholders about the planning and procurement of our water supply and the significant issues involved in the delivery and management of this vital resource.

DISCUSSION

The MWDOC Water Inspection Trip to the Hoover Dam and Colorado River Aqueduct will take place from October 2 -4, 2025, and will provide education on California’s extensive water supply system, including water treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, aqueducts, and water reclamation plants.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

There is no financial impact as the trip is paid for by Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
