OBJECTIVE
For the City Council to adopt a Proclamation recognizing October 2025 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the United States and the second leading cause of cancer death among women. In Orange County, recent data reveals breast cancer rates continue to rise for women under the age of 50. Awareness, early detection and access to treatment are essential in reducing the risk and improving survival rates. During the month of October, communities across the nation observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a campaign that aims to promote screenings and reduce the risk of the disease.
At the September 23, 2025 meeting, the City Council approved a request by Mayor Klopfenstein that a Proclamation recognizing October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Garden Grove, be listed for action at a subsequent meeting. She highlighted the devastating effects of the disease that have impacted many in our local communities, including members of her family . Mayor Klopfenstein encouraged the City Council , City staff and community members to wear pink at the next meeting in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
