Subject: Adoption of a Proclamation recognizing November 7, 2025, as Arbor Day in the City of Garden Grove. (Action Item)
OBJECTIVE
For City Council to adopt a proclamation recognizing Friday, November 7, 2025, as Arbor Day in the City of Garden Grove.
BACKGROUND
For over seventeen years, the City of Garden Grove has earned the status of “Tree City USA” from the National Arbor Day Foundation. The City is seeking to continue its annual designation through submittal of a new application due in December 2025
DISCUSSION
The Tree City USA application requires cities to comply with four standards. These include:
(1) a City -staffed tree maintenance section, (2) a n adopted tree ordinance, (3) an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, and (4) an Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation.
The Tree Maintenance Section in the Public Works Department is in compliance with all standards outlined above, except for a formal proclamation. Therefore, staff is requesting this final step in order to submit its annual application. Addition ally, the Trees Maintenance Section will host a tree planting ceremony on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Westhaven Park to commemorate Arbor Day in the City.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact to adopt a proclamation recognizing Friday, November 7, 2025, as Arbor Day in the City of Garden Grove.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council:
Proclaim Friday, November 7, 2025, as Arbor Day in the City of Garden Grove.
