Subject: Adoption of a Proclamation recognizing Black April Memorial Month. (Action Item)
OBJECTIVE
For the City Council to adopt a Proclamation recognizing April as Black April Memorial Month in Garden Grove.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Black April Memorial Month, observed each April, commemorates the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, marking the end of the Vietnam War and the beginning of widespread displacement of Vietnamese refugees. Known as “Black April” in the Vietnamese American c ommunity, it honors those who lost their lives, recognizes the resilience of refugees and their families, and provides an opportunity to reflect on the lasting impacts of war and the contributions of Vietnamese Americans.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council:
Adopt the Proclamation recognizing April as Black April Memorial Month in Garden Grove.
