22. COUNCIL REMARKS
(1) COUNCIL MEMBER FRANCIS – Since we last met, she attended a h oliday boutique, Winter Wonderland, and Jolly Trolley Park tour. She also attended our Beautification Commission meeting and Los Angeles County Greater Vector Control District meeting.
She mentioned we're in a holiday season and children will be on break, you'll see a lot more young people around on bicycles, skateboards, and scooters, it's a hectic time, so she encourages all to pack your patience as we're out and about shopping for the holidays. Extend a little grace to folks because you never know, in particular this time of year, whatever another person is going through, and there may be an empty chair at your table this year. A lot of things are going on so just as best you can show some kindness to folks, and we'll have a happy holiday season, she wished everyone a wonderful holiday season, and told everyone to enjoy your family and embrace them because you never know.
(2) COUNCIL MEMBER HENDERSON – Since the last meeting, he attended the Employee Tree Trimming, the Employee Mixer, Breakfast at the North Pole, the Tree Lighting, and the GTrans Safety Awards Banquet. He also ended up going to meet and getting some new work; SCAG has now put him on their legislative committee, so he'll be going to Sacramento talking about “all things transportation,” so GTrans be on alert because he'll be trying to find more resources for us. He wants to say to staff as we close out this calendar year that he appreciates the work that you all do on behalf of our community.
He knows we joke about our awards and a lot of the things that we receive, but that comes from the work and the diligence that everybody really takes their position seriously, so he acknowledged that. He also acknowledged that when we do encounter a gap or some mishap, we identify it, we don't shy away from it and we work to remediate the issue right away so that says a lot of courage, it says a lot of things about the leaders that we have in our community, so that is really appreciated. To our community this is the holiday time so please take that time with your family, he wished everybody a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa, and if you don't celebrate anything at all that's fine too, but just take this time to kind of reflect as we gear for the New Year.

Also, the swearing- in ceremony for re- elected council member, Dionne Faulk in the City of Inglewood. She also attended the GTrans Awards Ceremony party and Ernie you throw a great party as well, so kudos to you. Also, she attended the promotion ceremony for Sergeant Tyler Nash. Immediately following that she attended the Helping Hands food distribution where food was donated to the Air F orce. She just wanted to take a quick moment to thank all our departments for the amazing job that you guys did in 2024, she can't tell you how many people constantly come up to her and say they love Gardena and it's because of all the great things that we do collectively as a group. Often times when people tell her different department employees did something great, she always likes to tell you guys right away, so she doesn’t forget. She doesn’t get a chance to say it enough Thank you guys, some people say they don't have to worry about going to events outside of Gardena because we have so many events here this is all the entertainment that they need and she tells everybody that for all of our events we don't charge for parking and no matter where you live in our city you could be home in 5 minutes from any of our events so people just appreciate all that happens here whether it's for the kids, the seniors, or even our pets, so you guys do great, with that you guys have great customer service, and she always says there are only two things that she really demands of everybody and that's do your job and do your job with a smile and treat folks great and you guys showed that in 2024, so she wants to say thank you for that, 2025 is going to be even better.
(5) COUNCIL MEMBER LOVE – She has attended the Second Time Around Christmas party and their new installation of Officers, the first Jolly Trolley, she had a great time with a lot of kids, kids always get excited when it's time to give away the toys. She attended the Rain Barrel giveaway at Serra High School, hundreds of people were in line to gather those rain barrels, early in the morning, so it was great to see the people out being conscious of conserving water with West Basin Water. She attended the Grand Opening of El Pacifico Carniceria she stopped by early that day and if you're ever looking for some fresh squeezed orange juice early in the morning, he is very proud of his amazing orange juice machine, and he's asking everybody to come and try out his new orange juice. She also did a check presentation from some of her discretionary funds from the City to the owner of Aunties, the wife has a nonprofit dance studio dance school, and she does really good work, so she reached out to her. Before she ends her report, she wants to say sorry to Ernie for missing the celebration, she was there last year she didn't get a chance to attend this year. S he's going to end on a note, kind of co- signing what Council Member Francis said times are really hard and you do not know what people are going through; several times she has
Docusign Envelope ID: E8C3E25A-5349-42E0-B3B8-D60C3A939DBB 11 seen posts on social media and has been tagged in posts where people in the community are calling out for everything, there was a post where a lady was asking if anybody had leftover food from Thanksgiving, there was another post where a lady was asking if anybody had toys to donate to her for her two-year-old child, and this is on social media, it’s not for us to judge what the situation is or if the calls are legit, but it is for us to meet the needs of our neighborhood, our neighbors, our family, and our friends just calling out for help, so like Councilwoman Francis said just show some kindness and try to be there for our fellow humans. On that note, she also wants to ask that we support our small businesses during this holiday season of spending, our small businesses are struggling like a lot of people are and when you support these small businesses try to use cash versus credit cards because the amount small businesses pay in fees impact s their bottom line, and they're already small businesses. With that, she wants to wish everybody a Happy Holiday, a safe holiday celebrating whatever you celebrate during these holidays.
