5. CITY COUNCIL/STAFF COMMENTS
Councilmember Asatryan wished everyone a Happy New Year. Asatryan wanted to follow-up on getting a staff report or memo regarding the pedestrian crossing on Glenoaks and Brand.

She stated that the elderly need more time in crossing the street. Asatryan asked staff to provide a timeline to implement the Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI), which gives pedestrians the opportunity to enter the crosswalk at an intersection seconds before vehicles are given a green light. She asked staff to find a mitigation to the street vendor situation to make sure they are not blocking the right-of-way and that small businesses are not impacted. Asatryan also asked staff to agendize the California Equal Pay Pledge for a discussion.

City Manager Roubik Golanian stated that he will provide information on questions from council through his weekly memo to councilmembers and also put it up on the city website. He said that the LPI has already begun, and staff has adjusted the timing to increase the time from three to five seconds. LPIs are primarily concentrated in the downtown area in 59 locations. Golanian also mentioned that traffic engineers are currently studying the crosswalk on Glenoaks and Brand and a brief report will be provided. He stated that council will receive an update on street vendors.
