ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATION
1. Council may choose to not select the nine available applicants at this meeting and ask staff to conduct additional outreach. However, this alternative will likely impact the timeline given Council’s desire to receive input from the Committee on specific items related to a directly elected mayor and expanded council in advance of the November 2024 election.
2.Direct Appointments and Council Consensus: Each Council member selects one person to serve on the committee. Then, Council collectively chooses the remaining four members through a voting process and/or consensus-building.
3.Council Recommends/City Manager Appoints: Council can narrow the pool by having each Councilmember recommend two names from the pool and delegate the final selection of committee members to the City Manager.
4.City Manager Appoints: The City Council can choose to direct the City Manager to select nine committee members from the applicant pool.
5.The Council can choose another alternative not identified by staff.
