RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the proposed Urban Wildlife Management Plan.

ANALYSIS
The UWMP provides guidance to city staff and community members about wildlife issues and concerns within city boundaries. The plan (Exhibit 1) sets forth strategies to help community members reduce or eliminate conditions that attract wildlife and details expected responses when human and wildlife interactions occur. The plan addresses coyotes, bears and cougars however, the approach applies to all wildlife that has the potential to pose health or safety hazards. The plan provides specific guidance for coyotes, including a behavior description and recommended response to the behaviors.

In addition. the plan is designed to increase reports of coyote sightings which will help the Pasadena Humane Society monitor human-coyote interactions, document where coyotes are frequently seen, and identify hotspots within our city. Gathering specific data on interactions will allow for targeting of educational campaigns and conflict mitigation efforts, as well as the ability to measure success in reducing wildlife encounters over time.

There is currently a link on the Police Department’s website that allows users to submit complaints and concerns about wildlife 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Through the education portion of the Wildlife Management Plan, the link will be highlighted in an effort to increase reported contacts.

STAKEHOLDERS/OUTREACH
The UWMP will assist residents and community members with accessing specific information pertaining to Glendale's wildlife. The plan will provide a direct point of contact pertaining to the reporting of wildlife encounters/sightings.
