In March 2023, City Manager met with Deputy Mayor of
Higashiosaka and agreed to reactivate Sister City
relationship. In February 2024, Mayor Brotman met with the Japanese Consulate of Los Angeles to discuss reactivating Sister City relationships with educational or sports student exchange and matchmaking for tech businesses.
Re-established relationship in 1974 due to city
name change.
Ghapan Armenia 2002 Active Hasmik Ghonyan
Representatives from Ghapan held a meeting with
Councilmember Asatryan and Mayor Brotman in Nov. 2023
and asked City to re-engage relationship.
In 2006, delegates from the City of Glendale visited
Ghapan to see how it can help the city’s
educational, health-care and infrastructural
systems. The city has helped provide classroom
materials as well as install restrooms in Ghapan
preschools.
Gyumri Armenia 2015 Active Effie Karadjian
In February 2024, the City of Glendale issued a
congratulatory certificate celebrating Gyumri's first woman Vice Mayor, Lusine Sanoyan. Effie Karadjian, Cultural
Events Manager for the Municipality of Gyumri reached out to staff to re-engage the relationship.

Artsakh 2022 Inactive
In August 2023, Glendale approved the Glendale Aid for
Artsakh Initiative intended to collect funds from the Glendale community to send directly to Artsakh. In April 2024,
Glendale adopted a resolution urging for Congressional
Action for Armenian Genocide Recognition, Relief for
Artsakh, and Holding Azerbaijan and Turkey Responsible
for Acts of Genocide.
The inactivity resulted from unusual circumstances
regarding the sovereignty of the former Republic.

In 2010, Glendale Community College (GCC) and
Goseong signed an agreement to allow Goseong

Councilmembers to visit sister cities in Korea. The most recent visit took place in 2023.

In January 2024, Glendale City Council recognized 15
Students from Boeun-gun for their dedication to cultural education.
Was a Friendship City in 2012 before becoming a
Sister City in 2016.

In October 2023, staff level discussions took place with their representative on how to reconnect with the tech, small business and other City programs. In 2024, Staff continued to share resources around small business and tech.
In 2015, Glendale served as a host city to the
Dominican Republic team during the World Games
of the Special Olympics.

Laguna Philippines 2023 Active Edith Fuentes
Mayor Arcillas and her delegation visited the City of
Glendale in March 2024. A MOU was signed to continue
program development conversations.
