Dear Ms. Asatryan,
I am contacting you to express my support for the La Crescenta Ave. project. I have been a homeowner in Verdugo Woodlands for 20 years, and during that time I was an avid bicycle commuter between home and my work in Boyle Heights. My husband and I have also traveled long distances internationally by bicycle. From my cycling experience, I have learned that cycling is not just a sport and that bicycles ore not toys. Cycling is am important form of basic transportation, as serious, respectable, and necessary as car transportation.
Every cyclist has the responsibility to ride in accord with all traffic and safety laws. Likewise, cyclists have the right to expect their local leaders to seriously plan and develop truly safe and responsible biking infrastructure.
I appreciate our City Council’s efforts to explore ways to responsibly develop safe infrastructure for cyclists. Crescenta Ave., like Cañada Blvd. and Verdugo Rd., can be very dangerous for cyclists, as well as pedestrians. I will be in attendance at this evening’s City Council meeting to express my support for your project, and I hope that it will win your approval.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Vollmer

My Entrusted City Council Members,
I am writing to express my continued support for the La Crescenta Avenue project.
As a parent of a Fremont student and Sparr Heights resident, I am often concerned about the safety of mine and others' children as they travel to and from school, play in their yards, and enjoy the sense of community that makes Sparr Heights and Glendale at large such a great place to live.
I would also like to express my disappointment in the continued dragging of this decision and wasted tax dollars that can be used to enhance the lives of other neighbors across Glendale.
I ask that you move forward with this project with no further delay as no one wins in the continued risk to civilian lives and unnecessary additional intellectual and emotional capital invested by our City Council.
Thank you for your continued efforts to keep Glendale as a great place to live.
Best regards,
Brian Church

I am writing to urge you to vote IN FAVOR of the La Crescenta Avenue Project. We should accept the staff’s recommendation and make PERMANENT changes to this road.
Due to a schedule conflict, I am unfortunately not able to attend and speak in person, so I wanted to share my story with you in the hopes that it will show you the importance of changing the road.
Two years ago, our family (with 7 children) made a committment to be as carbon free as possible as a family. We made big changes at that time. One of them was that we bought an ebike with the ability to fit 2 children on the back. With a baby bike trailer on the back, it gave me the ability to bike around with 4 children in tow. I bike on La Crescenta Ave with my children every day. Biking is the way that I get my 3 children at Fremont Elementary school to and from school every day.
Sometimes, our neighbors join us too and we have a large bike bus that uses La Crescenta Ave. It is also the way that I get to the grocery store, soccer practice, and any other activities for our family. I also have a son who is a junior at CV High School who uses his ebike on La Crescenta Ave to get to and from his activities every day.
Currently, this is not safe for us. We have 2 current options.
First, we can use the sidewalk. There are many driveways and intersections where cars pull out.
These drivers are distracted by the traffic and do not look for us on the sidewalks. This has resulted in my older son being hit by a car and many other very close calls. The sidewalk is too narrow in spots for my bike trailer, so it results in my children trying to bike on the sidewalk while I use the road at times. The sidewalk is also uneven. This resulted in my neighbor's son being thrown from his bike and breaking his nose.
The second option is to ride in the road. This means my small children (my 7 year old has ridden her own bike since kindergarten) ride their bikes with vehicle traffic. Drivers do not always give us the space they should. They sometimes stay so close that I can reach our my foot and tap on their vehicle! It also means we have to stop on the shoulder of the road and try and wait for traffic to clear so that we can cross the road to the school. The shoulder is about 3 feet wide.
As you can see, neither of these options are safe for our family.
Please vote YES on item 8A at the city council meeting today, Tuesday, August 27th. Help make La Crescenta safer for my family and other families like us.
Thank you,
Nyssa Brown

I am writing to urge you to vote IN FAVOR of the La Crescenta Avenue Project. We should accept the staff’s recommendation and make PERMANENT changes to this road.
As a Glendale resident in Sparr heights (La Crescenta Ave/Roselawn.) I believe that creating safer streets for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists should be one of our priorities and I support the addition of crosswalks signalized crossings and bike lanes to La Crescenta Avenue.
We claim to have a family friendly area, and these changes will definitely make it safer to be a child that lives and plays here. As mom of 2 children, safety is extremely important to me. I want my kids and other kids to be able to bike and walk around our lovely neighborhood safely.
I know that some people are opposed to change in any form, but this project, once approved and finished, will benefit EVERYONE. It is a win win project, and as voters, we will remember who helped it get through to the finish line.
Please vote YES on item 8A at the city council meeting this Tuesday 2C August 27.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Curtis Brown

I thought this project was moving forward. We do NOT need a demonstration project. How many times do we need to revisit this? We need the project in its entirety to be constructed as already approved!! No more delays. Please move the complete project forward on 8/27/24.

Hello,
I am a resident in the Oakmont Country Club neighborhood. The project on La Crescenta Ave. directly impacts my family and I, our access to freeways and highways, EMS services and more. I was not notified at any point of the project nor asked how it could impact our immediate neighborhood (one that will be significantly effected). May I receive all documents that were supposedly sent out and be notified for all future community outreach events? I strongly oppose the decrease in traffic lanes and am sure most all of my neighbors will agree, especially the ones whom like me did not receive proper notification.
As a former City of Glendale employee and future physician with hopes of practicing in Glendale, I understand the desire to serve the community, especially Glendale residents. I hope that this is truly what is at the forefront of your thoughts but am worried that this plan has been pushed forward without the proper community outreach or engagement.
Feel free to reach out to me at any time either via email at [email protected] or by
cell at 818-395-8530.
Kindly,
Vartan Shahnazarian

Hello,
I'm writing to express my support for adding a center
turn lane to La Crescenta. I live in Sparr Heights, just half a block from Fremont Elementary, where my 8-year-
old daughter goes to school.
Our family often enjoys evening walks or bike rides
around the neighborhood. My daughter especially loves
riding her bike down our street to Arlington, then to La Crescenta, and on to Paloma before circling back around the school. While La Crescenta doesn’t see a ton of traffic —even during "rush hour"—the cars that do pass by tend
to drive pretty fast. This feels dangerous, especially with so many small children living in the area and attending Fremont every day.
I believe the temporary plan is a waste of taxpayer
money. Instead, a permanent installation of bike lanes, crosswalks, and wider sidewalks would better address the safety concerns and make our community safer for
everyone.
I feel very lucky to live in an area that cares about its residents, and appreciate your time and attention to this issue.
All the best,
Tiffany

Dear Council Members,
I strongly support the La Crescenta Ave project, it is time to make streets in Glendale safer and this is the best example to turn a Speedway into a safe, friendly corridor for pedestrians, cyclists, and all motorized vehicles drivers who care for the environment. I have been a Glendale resident for the last 27 years, living in Sparr Heights close to Fremont Elementary School, everyday I can hear and see motorized vehicle over speeding up or down La Crescenta Ave (and by other streets around the neighborhood) with total disregard for the many kids who are walking to and from school at the same time. It does not matter how often Glendale Police are enforcing speed limits on La Crescenta Ave, a lot of people continue speeding!
As a pedestrian, cyclist and car driver I do believe that permanent installations like enlarging sidewalks, adding bike lanes, center turn lanes and crosswalks will help slow down traffic, make intersecting streets safer. Our community will benefit directly from that new project on La Crescenta Ave.
I do not support the "demonstration project" which does not address the safety issues and is a waste of valuable taxpayers money.

Hello City Councilmember. We are Glendale YIMBY and we emphatically support the La Crescenta Avenue Rehabilitation Project. The proposed reconfiguration that will include a center turn lane and protected bike lanes, including amazing crosswalks, bike signals and redesigned intersections for safer passage to Fremont Elementary, must be approved and implemented as soon as possible. The Bicycle Transportation Plan (BTP) adopted by City Council in 2012, identifies La Crescenta Avenue as a study corridor for the implementation of dedicated bicycle infrastructure by repurposing driving lanes. In order to simultaneously implement mobility freedom in Glendale and also achieve our carbon emissions reduction goals, City Council ought to approve this project. Bike lanes improve public safety by protecting bicyclists, many of whom are children, from dangerous drivers. The La Crescenta Avenue Rehabilitation Project will install nearly 11,500 linear feet of new Class 4 protected bicycle lanes, as well as 5,500 linear feet of new class 2 buffered bicycle lanes. Our city must reorient funding away from dangerous, polluting, and expensive car-centric infrastructure and towards safe, sustainable, and healthy-inducing bicycle infrastructure. A city's budget represents its values, and we must demonstrate our values by funding and building the La Crescenta Avenue Rehabilitation Project immediately.

Dear City Council Members:
As a community member and mom who would like to see better public health outcomes and safe, diverse modes of trasportation, I am writing to urge you to vote IN FAVOR of the La Crescenta Avenue Project. Please accept the staff’s recommendation and make PERMANENT changes to this road.
As someone who would like safer infrastructure for biking and walking and whose 1.5 year old son is taken to daycare on a cargo bike in our neighborhood, I believe that creating safer streets for drivers pedestrians and cyclists should be one of our priorities. I support the addition of crosswalks signalized crossings and bike lanes to La Crescenta Avenue.
Please vote YES on item 8A at the city council meeting this Tuesday August 27.
Thank you,
Jennifer H.

Good morning Elen,
I hope everything is going well. I am writing to ask you to support the staff's recommendation of the proposed reconfiguration that will include a center turn lane and protected bike lanes, including amazing crosswalks, bike signals and redesigned intersections for safer passage to Fremont Elementary.
I drive on this street several times a week and I believe the reconfiguration will help make the neighborhood safer with little to no impact on car traffic.
Thank you for everything you do and I hope you make a decision that will help our city become safer and more environmentally friendly.
Sincerely,
Telly Tse

As dad of 2 children, safety is extremely important to me. I want my kids and other kids to be able to bike and walk around our lovely neighborhood safely.
I know that some people are opposed to change in any form, but this project, once approved and finished, will benefit EVERYONE. It is a win win project, and as voters, we will remember who helped it get through to the finish line.
Please think of our safety and our children by voting YES on item 8A at the city council meeting this Tuesday August 27.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Curtis A. Brown

I am writing to ask you again to approve the La Crescenta Avenue Project per the staff recommendations and to make them permanent. Nearly a million dollars on a test is a waste of time and will only lead to more back and forth.
Who is against safer streets? Anyone opposing this project is either misinformed or a disingenuous contrarian. This project has much in it that has nothing to do with bicycles, and the primary purpose is to make our neighborhood and elementary school safer for our kids.
Additionally, I would like to point out that Fremont parents - aka parents of YOUNG children - have been underrepresented at the City Council meetings because the opposition has made meetings unfriendly to families. The meetings last until ridiculous hours, and there are residents berating council members and using inappropriate language. I brought my 10yo to a meeting in May. She was up long past her bedtime on a school night, and she refers to it now as "the time that mean man used curse words in front of everyone." I am doing my best to find a babysitter so I can attend Monday night which means I will have to pay to attend. This is NOT an equitable system for local government.
Please let this project go ahead and thank you for reading.

Good afternoon Mayor and Council,
I am writing to thank the City team for putting together such a comprehensive package of safety and greening improvements for La Crescenta Avenue Rehabilitation Project. The mix of pedestrian safety elements, additional native trees, safer crosswalk striping, dedicated bikeways, and stormwater capture infrastructure would unquestionably benefit members of the community of all ages and abilities for years to come.
I sincerely hope you will vote YES on Item 8A at your meeting on Tuesday. Thank you for your service to the community,
The Reutimann Family
