To the Glendale City Council:
The Northwest Glendale Homeowners Association strongly supports the resolution at Agenda Item 9a in tomorrow night’s Council Agenda to designate the home at 1504 Bel Aire Drive as a historic resource in the Glendale Register of Historic Resources and to authorize the City Manager to enter into a Mills Act Historical Property Contract with the property owner.
This 1926 home sits prominently at the intersection of Bel Aire Drive, Grandview Avenue and Sonora Avenue. Given its location at this major intersection, many Northwest Glendale residents drive, bike or walk by this property regularly.
For years we have painfully watched this architecturally unique and striking property become rundown. Its rescue and transformation from an eyesore to a lovely home is an example of how an old home can be revived.
This designation and authorization are also important to its neighbors. It serves as an “official” recognition of the beauty and historical significance of this home and, by extension, our neighborhood.
