Dr. Suzie Abajian
Office of the City Clerk
City of Glendale
613 E. Broadway
Glendale, CA 91206
Dear Dr. Abajian,
Attached is my application for reappointment to the Arts & Culture Commission.(4 pages) My curriculum vitae is included as Page 3 and includes many civic activities. My statement on role, responsibilities and goals (Page 4) is very important to me as it reflects my commitment vision for the City of Glendale's evolution into an arts and cultural mecca we can all be proud of.

I am currently serving a one year term as Commission Chair and want to complete my second term as a member of this Commission.

I do not consider this appointment a stepping stone to anything else. I am truly living 'in the moment' and enjoying helping to shepherd Glendale down the arts and cultural path it is already on.

As we move toward LA 2028, a draft strategy is in progress (to be shared for review with City Council and the community shortly) which we hope will engage Glendale as a prime player in the LA Cultural Olympiad. I've been deeply involved in this project and am very excited about our artistic future and working with the City, including the members of our City Council.

Thank you and Glendale City Council in advance for considering my re-application.

Sincerely,
Arlene Vidor
Arts & Culture Commissioner

As a mother of two young ladies, ages 19 and 26, I have a natural desire to protect my daughters rights and make every effort to empower them in creating opportunities that would help them thrive and be successful in life.

Many women face challenges in life that stem from lack of education, self confidence, economic opportunities and various other factors. It is important to educate women on important matters such as equality in the workplace, knowing their rights in the society, building self confidence, building economic independence and creating goals for their future. To accomplish this, it is essential to develop programs that would provide mentoring opportunities where through experience sharing, encouragement and teaching women can learn new skills and develop behaviors that would propel them in a positive direction in life.

As an attorney specializing in domestic violence advocacy and gender equity, I believe the primary role of the Glendale Commission on the Status of Women is to serve as both a catalyst for systemic change and a support system for women and girls in our community. The Commission's reis leadi is policies to dises ge thered in, aliens faced by woman drounded, advising empower women to achieve self-sufficiency, safety, and leadership.

The Commission should also act as a bridge, connecting diverse community organizations, government agencies, and individuals to create an integrated, culturally inclusive approach to addressing the needs of women. I see the Commission as a vital advocacy body that not only identifies barriers but also actively works to dismantle them through collaboration, education, and legislative recommendations.

From my perspective, key issues facing women and girls in Glendale include ensuring access to resources for survivors of domestic violence, advocating for equal representation and leadership opportunities for women in all sectors, addressing gender-based disparities in economic security, and advocating for educational programs that promote healthy relationships and self-esteem. The Commission should focus on removing systemic barriers that perpetuate inequity, ensuring that women of all backgrounds-especially those from marginalized communities-have equal opportunities to thrive.

Moreover, as the CEO at Coro, I've seen firsthand the critical role of civic leadership in fostering systemic change. I believe that women's full participation in public life and leadership positions is essential to building a more equitable society, and this should be a priority for the Commission.

If appointed to the Commission, my goals are threefold:

1. Promote Legal Protections and Resources: I will advocate for stronger policies and resources to support survivors of domestic violence and gender-based violence, ensuring that Glendale provides accessible, comprehensive services for women in need of support, safety, and empowerment.

2. Increase Women's Civic Leadership: Drawing from my experience at Coro, I will work to create initiatives that encourage and train women to take on leadership roles across civic and government sectors, ensuring that women's voices are represented at every level of decision- making.

Foster Community Collaboration and Education: I aim to enhance the Commission's role as a convener, bringing together local organizations, educational institutions, and community groups to collaborate on programs that address the intersectional needs of women and girls.

Additionally, I will focus on increasing awareness about gender equity and the importance of women's empowerment within the broader community.

My vision is for Glendale to be a community where women and girls have the freedom, support, and resources to realize their full potential, and where their voices are heard and respected in every corner of civic life.

"Sustainability" is a lens for evaluating policies and practices. All government operations have enviromental impacts, but because they are "siloed," impacts are not always identified or assessed systematically.

The Commission can aid City policy makers and staff in evaluating impacts, proposing alternatives and assisting with implementation, as well as public/business outreach. My govemment experience will useful.

"Sustainability" has many definitions, but it is also a lens through which to evaluate policies and governmental operations are traditionally "siloed" or operate in a stand- alone manner, even though all have environmental impacts.

The Sustainability Commission can function as a resource whose members can assist City staff and policy makers in evaluating these impacts, proposing alternatives and assisting with implementation. The Commission can also assist with pilot programs and public education.
