Dear Mayor Asatryan and City Council members,
I question the appropriateness of placing these items on the consent calendar. This is especially true considering the changes proposed for La Crescenta Avenue. The very term "multimodal" smacks of "road diet," which is last thing neighborhoods in northern Glendale need.
In light of the extreme difficulty residents in the Palisades area had evacuating during the recent fire, ANY plan to narrow vital exit routes or erect barriers to vehicle traffic must be reconsidered.
And why does Verdugo Road need a bikeway if there is to be one on La Crescenta? Especially at such an enormous cost! Considering residents' opposition to the North Brand Boulevard road diet in the flatlands and the cost of correcting that foreseeable error, why is the city even considering road narrowing in the foothills?
I am writing as an individual but as President of the Crescenta Highlands Neighborhood Association I can say I am not aware of any community outreach. And even if any had been done prior to last month's horrendous wildfires, it should be done again with emphasis preserving the maximum possible means for residents to travel south during a wildfire.
These items should be placed on the regular calendar with staff and particularly Fire Chief Fish present to describe the possible changes in more detail and answer residents' questions.
Sincerely,
Mary-Lynne Fisher
