Dear Mayor Najarian and Glendale City Councilmembers,
I am writing to express my strong support for Agenda Item 9A and to respectfully urge your adoption of Alternative 2, as outlined in the Exhibits and Attachments submitted by Councilmember Elen Asatryan on August 26, 2025.

As Chief Executive Officer of Glendale Arts, I witness the importance of civic leadership, representation, and responsive governance every day. The Commission on the Status of Women plays a critical role in advancing gender equity and improving the quality of life for women and girls in Glendale. To fulfill this responsibility meaningfully, the Commission must be equipped with the structure, cadence, and resources afforded to other City commissions.

At present, the Commission meets only four times a year, less frequently than other City bodies tasked with addressing such urgent and complex issues, including gender-based violence, economic opportunity, healthcare access, and pathways to community leadership. A monthly meeting schedule is not only reasonable, it is essential.

Alternative 2 reflects the Council’s previous guidance and enhances the Commission’s ability to function effectively. It provides clear language, aligns the Commission’s structure with other City commissions, and ensures access to essential data across departments from Homeless Services to Domestic Violence Response, Economic Development, and trusted community partners such as YWCA Glendale and Door of Hope.

This is the time to build a stronger Commission. One that is empowered to advocate, collaborate, and act on behalf of half of our city’s population.

I respectfully urge you to:

Adopt Alternative 2 as submitted in the August 26 Exhibits and Attachments; and
Reaffirm and allocate a full-time staff position to support the Commission’s success.

Let’s provide the Commission on the Status of Women with the foundation it needs to thrive and the tools it needs to lead.

Thank you for your time, your leadership, and your continued commitment to equity and inclusion.

Sincerely,
Nina Crowe, Chief executive Officer
