COUNCIL ACTION
Item Type: Action Item
Approved for September 30, 2025 calendar
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Glendale Fire Department currently utilizes Ferno exclusively for the purchase of new gurneys and all equipment and supplies for daily use in conjunction with gurney maintenance and repairs. The Fire Department has used Ferno gurneys since the inception of the paramedic program in 2000. The ability to put these gurneys in a chair configuration allows our first responders to operate in tight spaces, which is common in our service delivery area. The standardization would allow for the purchase of new gurneys and equipment to maintain our existing fleet of twenty-three gurneys. Currently, a staff member is a certified Ferno Advanced Gurney Technician and performs the necessary repairs and maintenance in-house. This ensures our fleet of gurneys are in top working condition with a significant reduction in cost and downtime for repairs and service.
Maintaining a functional and safe fleet of this specialty equipment is critical in the delivery of our service to the community, and our current contract with Ferno expires in December of 2025.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the resolution allowing the City Manager to adopt equipment standardization for the purchase of gurneys, gurney maintenance and repair supplies from Ferno Washington.
ANALYSIS
The Fire Department requires a reliable vendor to supply our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division with gurneys, gurney maintenance and repair equipment that is required according to Local and State regulations. Our current contract (8001494-5) with Ferno expires on December 12, 2025, and establishing this standardization with Ferno 9b2
