EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Verdugo Fire Communications Center (VFCC) is the provider of computer aided dispatch (CAD) data for 47 emergency incident types, from fire, to medical, to service calls, for all 14 dispatched agencies. This data provides incident information to both Emergency Medical Services (EMS) reports and fire prevention data by address. VFCC does not have the ability to combine this information into a visual dashboard format for presentation and research of the Verdugo agencies.

RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council approve the resolution of appropriation in the amount of $80,000 for a suitable vendor to provide Fire/EMS/Fire Prevention data dashboards for the benefit of VFCC and the agencies served.
ANALYSIS
The CAD data provides foundational information for other fire department functions such as EMS and fire prevention data. Although the data is utilized in varied areas of the departments, there is no common platform to display the information for data inquiries or research.
The development of data dashboards will combine data currently housed in several records management systems into one filterable visual display. The combination of these data sources can result in dashboards displaying EMS transport data, unit utilization, community risk reduction, and overall incident data that can be narrowed down to the address or time of day.
The initial incident data is generated in CAD and sent to a records management system for the EMS and fire prevention platforms to utilize. An example of the data generated is an incident number that is also attached to (EMS) electronic patient care records (ePCR) for medical responses. CAD also produces information for department reporting to the National Fire Information Reporting System (NFIRS) used to track fire response data including the installation and activation of fire alarm systems during fire incidents. VFCC frequently receives data requests for varied information for department accreditation, strategic plan development, Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating, and response times.
The need for timely and accurate data is paramount when informed decisions affecting the safety and emergency response are reliant on it. The combined datasets displayed on the dashboards will provide up to date and historical information supporting decision makers with statistical information.
