Dear Glendale City Council and Dr. Abajian,
Our parent community at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School would like to include a public comment on the upcoming meeting agenda regarding the LA Metro BRT construction impacts and request a formal city response to the forthcoming construction work that was authorized and will undoubtedly heavily impact our students and community.

Our request is for Council to focus on student safety for walkers, driving traffic for families dropping off and picking up, short- and long-term impact on our students' and teachers' health given the dust and noise near Thomas Jefferson ES during the 2026- 2027 and 2027-2028 school years.

We ask for the City of Glendale for city coordination on traffic management and school-zone protections, reassess construction timelines to avoid peak school hours and the academic year, implement strict mitigation measures including sharing (air quality monitoring data, noise reduction strategies, and traffic safety controls) with the school community, engage school families in transparent, ongoing planning, evaluate alternative learning arrangements and routing options to minimize direct impact on the school staff and students.

We support investments in public transportation. However, infrastructure progress should not come at the expense of children’s health, safety, and ability to learn.

Thank you,
Stella
