EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Project specifications have been completed for the replacement of 52 roll-up doors at the city’s nine fire stations. The existing doors have reached the end of their useful life and require replacement to improve operational reliability, functionality, and safety for Fire Department personnel and emergency response operations.
The purpose of this item is to request that the City Council adopt the project specifications and authorize the City Clerk to advertise for bids. Following the competitive bidding process, staff will return to City Council with a recommendation for contract award.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the resolution to adopt specification No. 4053 for the Glendale Fire Stations Roll- up Door Replacement Project and direct the City Clerk to advertise for bids.
BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS
The project consists of replacing 52 roll-up doors at the city’s nine fire stations with modern direct-drive door systems. The proposed improvements will enhance the functionality, reliability, and operational efficiency of fire station facilities.
The existing roll-up doors have exceeded their useful service life and are experiencing increased maintenance needs, costs, and reliability issues. Replacing the existing systems with direct-drive door systems will provide improved durability, reduced maintenance requirements, quieter operation, and increased dependability for emergency response activities.
To minimize disruptions to Fire Department operations, installation of the new doors will be completed in phases. This approach will ensure that fire stations remain fully operational throughout construction while maintaining a safe environment for personnel 25b

To promote a competitive bidding process and maximize contractor participation, staff will advertise the project in accordance with the city’s purchasing requirements, including publication on the city’s website and in Glendale Independent.
STAKEHOLDERS/OUTREACH
Staff will coordinate with the selected contractor and Glendale Fire Department personnel to ensure the work is performed in a manner that minimizes disruptions to station operations, emergency response, and impacts to the public.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with adopting specifications for this project. Staff will determine if additional appropriations will be requested from the General Fund or if funds can be shifted from another project at the time of contract award, if the bid amounts come in above the current budgeted amount of $1,570,000 for construction.
