V. OTHER INFORMATION
B. "Please include a brief written statement outlining your views on the roles and responsibilities of this Board or Commission, its key issues, and your goals if appointed:" If appointed, my role on the Design Review Board would be to collaborate with my colleagues on the board & city staff, and to hear the community, as we review the appropriateness of new development and exterior modifications to existing structures. It would be my responsibility to provide clear guidance and recommendations to foster creative, and quality architectural design that positively contributes to the character of Glendale. It would also be my responsibility to verify that the designs are consistent with adopted design standards, compatible with existing neighborhoods, and to review staff recommendations based on those standards. The intent and purpose of the Design Review is also clearly outlined in 30.47.010 of the Glendale's Municipal Code, sections A - H.
I am highly motivated to be of assistance with the following key issues and goals:
• Upholding the city design standards: I will work to ensure that good design, as defined by code, is implemented, to protect and enhance the positive aesthetics, character, and scale of Glendale communities. • Fostering community, growth, & diversity: I will encourage the design of beautiful structures & streetscapes that will be desirable and pleasant to live in, and walk through. Thoughtful and beautiful growth of cities can be achieved with the use of several design tools that are in the code such as approachable articulated facades, diversity of design, balance, and building massing scale. • Compatible design: I will strive to preserve and respect historic neighborhoods, and the unique character of various areas of Glendale, while simultaneously encouraging new, innovative, and creative design ideas. • The housing crisis: I hope to have the opportunity to make the design review process helpful, effective, and efficient, for urgently needed, aesthetically pleasing affordable housing projects. • Sustainability and regenerative design: I will encourage projects to take advantage of passive and active design strategies that are site & environmentally sensitive. • Collaboration: It is my goal to provide valuable recommendations & guidance to designers who come before the board, and to also be an empathetic listener as a team member, working towards our common objectives.
