6. CITY COUNCILISTAFF COMMENTS (Including reports from
conferences and regional meetings)
Councilmember Bartrosouf announced two upcoming Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) meetings: a virtual meeting to be held on August 17 at 6:00 PM via the link https://bit.ly/NoHoToPasadena, and an in-person meeting on August 18 at 6:00 PM at the Adult Recreation Center. He shared that on August 13, 2026, the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) will begin the 7th Cycle of the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA), a two-year process covering the 2029—2037 time period. He also discussed revamping the City’s budget process to include more advanced outreach and a more robust approach to engaging the community.

Councilmember Asatryan shared the following Board and Commission appointment nomination from one of her panels: Ani Garibyan — Transportation & Parking Commission. She shared that last week she conducted a site visit in San Gabriel with the Tongva Tribe, learned about their programs and history, highlighted their Native American Market, and discussed opportunities for education and collaboration. She also shared that, as part of Concerts in the Park, the Past Action Heroes will be performing on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 7:00 PM at Verdugo Park.

Councilmember Brotman shared that the Brand Summer Music Series continues every Friday through August 28, 2026, at 7:00 PM on the lawn behind the Brand Library & Art Center. He expressed concerns about FLOCK cameras, noting that the City does not want to lose the benefits they provide in solving crimes, but that the City is looking into concerns regarding privacy and civil liberties.

Mayor Kassakhian noted that the Council has received a memo from the Glendale Police Department regarding FLOCK cameras, and that technology can be one way to protect our residents and community, but it needs to be used appropriately. Regarding the City’s budgeting process, he asked staff to explore hiring a consultant who has worked with other cities to evaluate where Glendale has potential for growth and revenue generation and where additional savings may be possible. He expressed his deepest condolences to anyone affected by the earthquake in Colombia. He shared that last Wednesday, he traveled to Sacramento to speak at the Select Committee on California and Armenia Mutual Trade Hearing. He noted that the school year begins next week at many schools and reminded people to be safe during drop-off and pick-up in school zones. He highlighted that Glendale will be hosting the Southern California Chess Open for the second time, to be held from September 4—7, 2026.

Councilmember Asatryan asked staff for an update on organizing a public event where the community can come and play chess with the grandmasters. Mayor Kassakhian noted that staff has been working on this suggestion. 3 081126CC
