Brief Statement on
the Glendale Civil Service Commission
I believe the Glendale Civil Service Commission plays a vital role in protecting the integrity, fairness, and professionalism of Glendale's municipal workforce. The merit system must ensure that city employees are hired, promoted, and retained based on ability, training, experience, and performance—not political influence or favoritism.

The Commission also has an important quasi-judicial responsibility in providing employees with a fair and impartial process to appeal disciplinary actions. That role requires legal analysis, independence, consistency, transparency, and respect for both the rights of employees and the interests of the City and its residents.

If appointed, my goals would be to uphold Glendale's strong merit-based civil service tradition, ensure that Commission rules remain fair and clearly applied, and promote accountability while protecting due process. As an attorney for over 27 years and an upstanding member of our community, I have the necessary skills in applying the facts and the law in an impartial and adequate manner. I would also work to ensure that the Commission continues to attract and retain highly qualified employees by maintaining public confidence in a professional, impartial, and effective civil service system.

Ultimately, I believe a strong Civil Service Commission benefits everyone—our employees, our City government, and most importantly, the residents of Glendale who depend on dedicated and capable public servants.

TONY PO
