LEGISLATIVE HISTORY / PREVIOUS ACTIONS
Annually, the City Clerk’s Department conducts a review of City Council appointed boards/commissions and prepares a Notice of the Board of Commission Appointments, a requirement of the Maddy Act (Gov.

Code §54970) (Attachment C), which lists appointed members of City Council boards/commissions and highlights any appointments that will expire in the upcoming year. The Maddy Act is posted to the City’s website and bulletin boards annually before December 31st.

Additionally, Gov. Code §54974 regulates the process utilized by cities to fill unscheduled vacancies on the City Council appointed commissions and boards and requires that when an unscheduled vacancy occurs in any board, commission, or committee for which the legislative body has the appointing power, a Special Vacancy Notice shall be posted in the office of the Clerk of the local agency, on either the local agency’s internet website or at the library designated pursuant to §54973, and in other places as directed by the legislative body, not earlier than 20 days before or not later than 20 days after the vacancy occurs.

Final appointments shall not be made by the legislative body for at least 10 working days after the posting of the notice in the Clerk’s office.

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

• Conceived, pitched, and gained buy-in from executive leadership and direct reports on a bold, multiyear vision to grow a publishing division’s revenue, reputation, and relationships • Acquired and published dozens of award-winning books, including two New York Times bestsellers • Launched a major publisher’s video learning division, which grew to 80 titles during my tenure, contributing about 5% of the imprint’s annual revenue
• Led an established, historic imprint into creating new product types, including digital shorts, enhanced ebooks, video lessons, audio lessons, and small group study guides; cultivated strong ongoing relationships with Bible software companies
• Increased a publishing imprint’s annual release pipeline from 25 to 40 titles, focusing both on increased revenue and award potential
• Successfully navigated distrust between a division’s marketing and editorial personnel, bringing about a collegial working relationship
